Notes
- Do not pull the lever under the main staircase or Royal Sorcerer Navlaan's questline becomes unavailable.
- Royal Sorcerer Navlaan will invade near the fog door to Guardian Dragon if you pulled the lever.
- At Bonfire Intensity 2+, a Painting Guardian Phantom can be found behind one of the paintings in the hallway.
- Dark Soul II: Scholar of the First Sin:
- To release the creatures in the high cages, you'll need to enter the Locked Laboratory and pull the cage lever.
- In order to access the Locked Laboratory, you'll need to light all four sconces scattered across the zone, defeat all four resulting Forlorn invaders, and return to the main hall with the dragon skeleton. The dragon skeleton will animate and lunge forward, potentially destroying the Basilisk cart and possibly killing you if you're in the way. The top half of the dragon skeleton will then disappear, and Aldia Key will automatically be added to your inventory.
- You'll encounter carts which are apparently being shaken by what's contained within. There's two in the entryway and two in the back hallway. The ones in the back hallway can be smashed open by Ogres, revealing respawning Basilisks. The one near the entry stairs can be smashed by the animated dragon skeleton as it lunges, revealing a Basilisk. The other very first entryway cart may not seem like it can be broken open, but If you manage to drag the entry stair ogre over to it and have it smash it, you'll find that this cart is actually empty - the developers may not have anticipated anyone opening it.

Belfry Luna Walkthrough with Boss
The Bell Tower
Belfry Luna and the sister location Belfry Sol are notorious for a high probability of PvP invasions. If you are in online mode, anticipate frequent invasions potentially by multiple Gray Spirits as you proceed through the area. Once you step onto the bridge leading into the bell tower, you are susceptible to invasion.
This is a small area with fairly straight forward design. Upon entering the tower, immediately to the right of the doorway is the Belfry Guard. You can choose to speak to him at this point, as exhausting his dialogue will prompt him to offer joining the Bell Keepers covenant. Be warned that joining still leaves you susceptible to invasions, however. Proceed straight through the hall and up the first flight of stairs. Watch for the hole at the top landing, which will drop you back to the tower entry. Your first Bell Keeper enemy will be behind and to your right when you reach the second floor.
If human while climbing the stairs you will receive an invasion notice, the Dark Spirit Bell Keeper is waiting on the top of the tower. Proceed up the second flight of stairs to the third floor, you will encounter three more silver Bell Keepers. The doorway leading to the boss encounter is blocked, so you will need to climb the long ladder to the top floor.
Invader: Bell Keeper
Regardless of whether you have the Red Phantom, there will be several silver Bell Keepers to contend with here. The Dark Spirit has more HP than the regular Bell Keepers, but seems to have the same AI. This is a divide-and-conquer type of fight, and is almost comical in the constant running away from tiny enemies. While running around the arena in a circle you can simply grab the lever and unlock the boss door in case you do not make it back down.
The Bell Keepers will destroy you with their rapid arrow attacks, which cannot be dodged by running. Roll or make good use of the angled stone corners around the arena. Generally the keepers will chase you in a straight line, and occasionally one will separate for you to take a few quick swings. If you are not able to stagger the keepers, they will shoot you at every opportunity while attacking. A spear and shield combo could be useful here.
Boss fight: Belfry Gargoyles
A clear homage to Dark Souls Gargoyles, which was itself an homage to Demon's Souls Maneaters, you now have to contend with five Gargoyles, each with their own life bar. Four or even five can be engaged with you at once if you fail to kill them fast enough.
See Belfry Gargoyles for more information.
Invader: Vorgol the Sinner
After defeating the boss you can access the only bonfire in the area. The area down the ladder next to the bonfire has multiple dogs, and a Red Phantom encounter. An Enchanted Falchion is on the platform at the top of the stairs, and the Bastille Key is on the ground below. (In Scholar of the First Sin, the Bastille Key is replaced with the Dragon Tooth, a Brightbug, and a Petrified Something)
With persistence and the correct target lock angle, the dogs can be taken out with arrows from the top of the ladder. It's recommended to at least kill a couple of them, as they will all aggro you the moment you touch the ground. Both a short bow and a light crossbow can hit the dogs. It seems easiest with a light crossbow in the left hand while the dogs roam toward the right. Push against the ladder as you cannot fall.
Vorgol is a straightforward spear user but will easily guard break you when your shield is up.
Notes
- Due to the high frequency of invasions, speed is the best tactic for this level, unless your goal is PvP. Particularly once the bell has been rung, avoiding all enemies and sprinting to the boss fog wall offers the best opportunity for success.
- Playing offline is another option. However there are no NPC summons to help you anywhere. (In Scholar of the First Sin, Masterless Glencour can be summoned even if you're offline)
- The fight against Vorgol the Sinner after the Belfry Gargoyles is likely a homage to the fight against the Capra Demon from Dark Souls, as the fight takes place in a similar arena with a staircase, with dogs interrupting you while you fight a main foe.

Three Simpleton's Spice:
- Corpse to the right of the ladder tower, between the tower and the fence
- Corpse on the right side of the roof, near the fence
- Corpse to the right of the exit fog gate, near the ladder that goes back up to the roof
The Immolation pyromancy can be found just before entering Iron Keep again.
Black Knight Greatsword, Protective Chime and Grand Spirit Tree Shield are behind an illusory wall. Go through Belfry Sol and take the ladder down at the end, pass the corner and the illusory wall is on your right.
There is a rarely spawning Red Phantom called the Mad Warrior, who wields a pair of Berserker Blade katanas. This enemy has a low chance of dropping this weapon as well as individual pieces of the entire set of armor he wears, which is unique and only obtainable from him. See his article for more information.
The Dual Avelyn Bell Keeper and Bell Keeper Mage have their own rare drop: Black Witch Domino Mask and Black Witch Veil, respectively. They only spawn once and the drops are very rare, so it's likely you'll have to use many Bonfire Ascetics to get them.

Belfry Sol Map (Japanese)
Item Guide
This area is slightly hidden, located in the Iron Keep on the path to the Old Iron King boss. After defeating the Smelter Demon boss (or bypassing it using the path from the furnace) you will reach a room filled with lava and suspended catwalks. There will be a lever in front of you and to the left, a set of stairs. Beside the stairs is a room with a Pharros' Lockstone device inside. Activate the device to reveal an illusory wall with a ladder behind it. There is a bonfire up here, but be advised that once you drop down to the bonfire you cannot get back to the lava room until you've beaten the area (or warped through the bonfire) without some kind of fall damage control.
At the bonfire you will find a ladder leading to the area, and an NPC who will allow you to join the Bell Keepers covenant if you have not done so already. As in Belfry Luna, there are several Bell Keeper phantoms here, in addition to Phantom NPCs who wield a Greatsword and dual Avelyn crossbows among other things, so take caution. Additionally, there is also a rare chance that Mad Warrior spawns near the long ladder.
To go back to the lava room without clearing the area, take out the bell keeper who charges into the room when you reach the top of the ladder. After defeating him, equip as few things as possible plus your fall damage control equipment, stand at the opposing corner to the belfry guard, then run towards him and fall through the ladder hole. You should fall near the top of the ladder leading to the Pharros contraption.
Damage taken from the fall:
Three pieces of the lion warrior set (including the skirt): ~200
Silvercat Ring: ~200
Silvercat Ring and one piece of the lion warrior set (beside the skirt): ~80
Silvercat Ring and two pieces of the lion warrior set (beside the skirt): negligible
Silvercat Ring and the lion warrior skirt: negligible
Silvercat Ring and two pieces of the lion warrior set (including the skirt): 0
Notes
- While playing offline, a Bell Keeper will invade you near the bell lever.
- If you are intending to skip Smelter Demon. you can use the Belfry Sol Approach bonfire as a starting point instead of the Threshold Bridge bonfire. Simply climb up the ladder and go to the bottom left of the room with the covenant NPC. From there, walk or run towards the top-right of the room and you will land next to the ladder after the Pharros contraption, but it will only work if you equip the Silvercat Ring (or have high enough hp).
- NOTE: Unfortunately, this pvp area has significantly lower chances to be invaded than Belfy Luna.

- From the first bonfire, stick to the left hand side until you come across a small passageway. Down this passageway is a chest, containing the Shotel and a Great Magic Weapon scroll.
- Leave the passageway and continue on the left to reach another passageway, Down this passageway is a chest containing a Divine Blessing. (See notes about this chest).
- Scraps of Life can be found near the first set of tar pools.
- Pharros' Lockstone is just behind the second bonfire, hidden in some pots.
- Drop off the ledge near the second Razorback Nightcrawler. Facing the face of the cliff, roll down to the right, and then roll down to the left. You should now be outside a large cave entrance. Enter the cave, kill both of the Elite Giants to get the Forgotten Key and a Soul of a Giant. They are easily kited, or sniped from an elevator room directly to the right.
- In the same cave as the Forgotten Key, open the chest at the back of the cave (in a smaller room) to receive the Ring of Giants +1 and a Petrified Dragon Bone.
- In the boss room, surrounded by lava stones, is a body with the Fire Seed.
- After the Rotten has been defeated, continue through the small newly opened passage in the rear of the chamber. Before the Primal Bonfire there is a chest. In Dark Souls II it contains Sublime Bone Dust; in Scholar of the First Sin it contains a Petrified Something.
Notes
- The statues inflict poison and can stagger you if your poise is too low.
- Resting at a bonfire will not respawn the statues. Dying, using a Homeward Bone / Aged Feather or warping between bonfires will respawn them.
- The pools of tar can be set on fire with fire weapons or bombs. They burn for around a minute and deal minor damage to anyone standing on them. They will respawn.
- Lucatiel of Mirrah can be found by dropping down to a ledge next to the entrance for the "hidden chamber" bonfire but it's pretty hard to see because it's really dark.
- The summon sign of Lone Hunter Schmidt is near the large skeleton close to the boss fog wall.
- Darkdiver Grandahl can be reached by dropping down to a ledge near the second Razorback Nightcrawler, and opening the door with the Forgotten Key.
- The chest containing the Divine Blessing has a lock on the front but is not a Mimic.
- After passing a certain point, the player will be invaded by an NPC Black Phantom (Scholar of the First Sin only)
- As they have a long range and cant be deflected by walls, whips are extremely useful for destroying the poison statues

- Weaponsmith Ornifex, appears in the room next to the Lower Brightstone Cove bonfire after having freed her in the Shaded Woods.
- The summon sign of Ashen Knight Boyd is behind a pillar opposite of Freja's fog wall.
- A small "task" has to be completed before the Pickaxe is obtainable. See its page for details.
- In NG+ there is an additional encounter with the Duke's Dear Freja emerging from the hole right in front of the entrance to the chapel. She has limited attacks and mostly spits acid at you, as only a portion of her body is out of the hole. Her health bar shows up and it's possible to defeat her here. Any damage that you do to her at this point will carry over when you reach her boss room. She will retreat after a period of time or if you run away.

To enter the DLC, you must go to the primal bonfire after the Old Iron King and examine the obelisk in the room after the bonfire. Once in the DLC, you will be in a room containing stairs leading to an elevator, and two side rooms. These side rooms can be used by players whom do not have the DLC to place their summon signs, allowing them to be summoned into the Iron Passage or the Memory of the Old Iron King ? . Go up the stairs and open the big door with the Heavy Iron Key.
Straight ahead is an elevator, take it and at the top, cross the mist wall. Turn right and go up the stairs. You will see several bodies strewed across the floor, and the remains of an Ashen Idol holding 6 x Smelter Wedge. Remember to save four of these for the room containing the Fume Knight. Cross the giant chain, and in front of you will be the Throne Floor bonfire. As soon as you reach an ash covered area after some stairs, an Ashen Idol will appear. Avoid it's flame pillar attack and examine it, and use a Smelter Wedge to destroy it. It will drop a Soul of Nadalia, Bride of Ash fragment. Go down the stairs on the left side of the area and pick up the Dexterity Ring of the corpse.
Go back up and go through the doorway parallel to the stairs. Follow the path and drop down onto the elevator, and again onto the round platform. Pick up the 2 x Old Growth Balm from the corpse and drop down onto the level below. Go through the doorway and down into an ash field. An Ashen Warrior will emerge from the ash, kill it and pick up 2 x Twilight Herb from the corpse on the left. Destroy all of the ash bodies and pick up a Large Soul of a Proud Knight. There is another ramp, to the right of the ramp is a corpse holding a Rouge Water. Four Ashen Warriors will appear once you go down the ramp, dispatch them. Enter the doorway to the right and go down the ladder. Go around the round structure to pick up a Blackweed Balm. Continue down another ladder and pick up 10 x Prism Stone from a corpse.
Following the hallway at the bottom of the ladder, you will find a metal chest containing a Titanite Slab. Continue down the ladder next to the metal chest and you will enter a large room containing an Ashen Idol and several Ashen Warriors. Try to destroy the Ashen Idol as quickly as possible. In the room to the right of the ladder are two more Ashen Warriors and a corpse holding the pyromancy Dance of Fire. At the end of the large room and to the left is a lever. Pull it to open the big door. Follow the path to the left of the door to find 2 Ashen Warriors hiding in ash and several ash figures. Destroy the ash figures to find 2 x Old Mundane Stone. There is also a corpse holding 5 x Lloyd's Talisman. Opposite this corpse is a fake wall, open it and within are two metal chests. One contains 4 x Old Radiant Lifegem and 4 x Wilted Dusk Herb. The other contains 2 x Soul Vessel.
Go back up to the doorway and follow the path right.

Description
A dark abyss chasm, containing remnants of ages long gone.
Location
First, talk to Darkdiver Grandahl in all three of his locations (Black Gulch, Shaded Woods, and Drangleic Castle) in any order to join the Pilgrims of Dark covenant.
Entering requires one Human Effigy, but the first time is free.
These abyss dungeons can be completed in any order. After defeating Darklurker, entering the chasm does not cost a human effigy, and this effect lingers even after leaving the covenant.
Walkthrough
In order to face the Darklurker boss, you need to ignite the brazier within each Chasm area. To do this you need to use a Flame Butterfly to light your torch when within a Chasm, as attempting to enter a Chasm with an already lit torch, extinguishes it, and there are no available fire sources within a chasm to use.
Torches, or the sorcery Cast Light, are both very useful tools within the Chasms to light your way.
Dark Chasm of Old [Drangleic Castle]
You arrive in a water-filled cave with several deep sections that will instantly kill your character if stepped in. There are, however, thin "bridges" of ground where you can walk safely. Consider using a torch to navigate through this small labyrinth.
After you exit this area, you arrive at another bridge of ground, this time with just a drop to your death on both sides, and a waterfall to your left. Almost immediately after this bridge, on your left, you can see a phantom wearing Havel's Set and Dragon Tooth. Be careful to not catch his attention before you are ready; Havel hits like a truck, and he is fast to boot. Consider luring him to the bridge and shoving him off with a strong attack or another knockback ability.
After you've dealt with Havel, you have two directions. On the left, there are two phantoms: a Forest Spirit and a sword-and-shield melee phantom wielding Ricard's Rapier. On the right, there is a dual-wielding melee phantom.
Approach the Forest Spirit from the left so that you don't aggro Ricard yet. The caster will notice you as you approach and attempt to hit you with soul arrow-type spells. Dodge or block these and smash him at close range. Be careful not to fall into the holes on the way.
After the fight, you might have triggered Ricard to move from his initial position. Examine the direction you came from and see if you can see Ricard. If you can't, he's at his initial location in the corridor to your left. If you try to turtle defend against him with a shield, he will attempt a guard break and then hit you with several quick stabs while you're stunlocked.
Proceed to the narrow bridge that leads you to a brazier. After this, go kill the dual-wielding phantom and exit from the hole behind her.
If you revive Darklurker by using Bonfire Ascetic on the Under Drangleic Castle bonfire, you must go through this section of the Dark Chasm of Old to reach him. Using Bonfire Ascetic on the other two bonfires will not revive him (although this will revive the phantoms) and the other two sections of the Dark Chasm of Old will not lead to him.
Dark Chasm of Old [Shaded Woods]
Continue along the corridor until you arrive to a room with a large pitfall. In the next room, you will face two phantoms simultaneously. One of them is an archer and another a shield-and-sword melee phantom.
You don't want to have them surround you, so lure both phantoms into a chokepoint (for example, the corridor between the pitfall room and the phantom room) and deal with them face-to-face one after another. Consider trapping this chokepoint with Lingering Flame so that you can deal some helpful initial damage before you engage them in melee.
After the phantoms are dealt with, you need to get past a Forest Spirit on the far side of the room. This phantom casts a traveling shockwave that probably will knock you down if it hits. Note that immediately before the this phantom there is a hard-to-see pitfall, so don't rush in too carelessly.
After the Spirit is dead, you can light the brazier in the room. Go forward, call the elevator with the lever and then ride the elevator down.
You arrive in a large cavern with a ledge overlooking the rest of the area. Below the ledge, you will see a dual-wielding melee phantom. Don't let this phantom guard break you, as he will get several hits in while you are recovering.
When this final phantom dies, the nearby fog door guarding the exit dissolves.
Dark Chasm of Old [Black Gulch]
This map has six enemies: two phantoms dual-wielding Drakekeeper's Great Hammers and wearing the Ironclad Set, two phantoms wearing the Xanthous Set and casting pyromancies, and two Forest Spirits.
As you start you will enter a somewhat lit room with a spiral going down. If you can, try to make the first dual-wielding hammer phantom to attack you without making the pyromancer aggressive, otherwise this will be a hard fight.
It may help to go back up and fight the pyromancer in the wide open area instead of the ramp.
Once you kill the first group, proceed down the tunnel, on your left is the brazier. Then head right, toward the waterfalls. This next particular area has a few pitfalls, so be wary.
In this room, there is another hammer wielding phantom on a ramp going down. Draw his aggro and run back so you don't draw the attention of the pyromancer behind him.
Take care them in the same way as the first two. Go down the ramp, the final Forest Spirit should be very easy to kill as long as you can dodge miracles.
Once everything is dead, go to the end and drop down to the exit.
Notes
- Regardless of whether you light the brazier or not, the enemy phantoms within each chasm respawn normally each time you re-enter. This making the chasms excellent places to farm Bonfire Ascetics.
- If you die after lighting the brazier but before falling through the exit, the chasm resets, and the cauldron will be unlit the next time you return.
- If you manage to light all three braziers, you will face Darklurker whenever you exit a chasm.

Crystal Lizard Locations
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin
- The bridge that appears after the bonfire is now blocked by a petrified hollow. However, the ladder next to the bonfire is now automatically dropped down, so you can work through the Dragon Aerie backwards, or skip it all together now.
- The Guardian Dragons will not wake up to attack you unless you either attack them, or break eggs near them. This means you can carefully kill the Crystal Lizards without fighting the Guardian Dragons. If an enemy breaks one of the eggs, this does not seem to wake the dragons. Also, the Moon Butterfly Set will wake them immediately if you get too close. You can make them go back to sleep by resting at the bonfire.
Loot
- The Aged Feather is given by Emerald Herald near the beginning of the area.
- Radiant Lifegem on a corpse in the first cave from the bonfire.
- Three Elizabeth Mushrooms at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- Dragon Tooth is near the first dragon.
- Petrified Dragon Bone behind some eggs before the second dragon.
- Two at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- Soul of a Brave Warrior and a Pharros' Lockstone are on a ledge after the second dragon, use of Aged Feather is required to leave.
- Ring of the Evil Eye +1 is near the third dragon.
- After taking the zip line to the shortcut, drop down to a ledge and take the Twinkling Titanite, use of Aged Feather is required to leave.
- Using the zip line above the bonfire, drop just after the rope bridge to land on the small outcrop to get a Soul of a Great Hero.
Notes
- There are eleven Crystal Lizards around so stay sharp.
- On the outcrop with two sets of bridge posts, grab onto the zip line to access the area above the bonfire, and kick the ladder to open the shortcut.
- If you stand on the final long bridge that's swaying with the wind for too long, a Drake will jump on it and rip it in half, making you fall to your death like in the trailer. This happens faster depending on how many dragon eggs in the area you've broken.
- Near all three dragons, there are "safe-zones" you can snipe them from. Dragon must be aggroed. First, through the hole in the floor from below. Second, stand above the ledge with a Pharros Lockstone. Third, from across the rope bridge near the shortcut. Poison arrows are recommended for this.
- Royal Sorcerer Navlaan will invade half-way through the area if you pulled the lever in Aldia's Keep.

- The Dragon Knights only aggro in groups, as in if you run past or attack only one group, the next group of Dragon Knights will not attack you unless you also run past or attack them.
- Only the Dragon Knight at the end of the long staircase powerstancing the two great swords will attack you. It does not respawn.
- The Dragon Knights may attack you if you summon a white or gold phantom excluding NPC phantoms.
- You may summon a phantom without angering the Dragon Knights if the host has defeated the Dragon Knight with the two greatswords, and only one player attacks a Drakekeeper at a time.
- They do not turn hostile if you challenge or kill the Ancient Dragon.
- They do not turn hostile if you take the Petrified Egg.
- Their aggro resets when the area reloads.

Item GuideDragon Shrine Video Walkthrough (Starts at 20:30 from Dragon Aerie)Starting at the first bonfire, head up the stairs and defeat the first Drakekeeper. Right behind him there should be a few barrels and crates, hiding a Pharros' Contraption. Activate it to reveal a chest containing the Judgment Set and the Staff of Wisdom. To the right of him, there should be an area with a chest (including x3 Bonfire Ascetics). After clearing this area, walk up the stairs behind him and confront the greathammer wielding Drakekeeper. Defeat him and turn left, walk up the stairs and kill the Drakekeeper there. There will be a chest here including a Twinkling Titanite, take it then "convince" the Dark Priestess to stop spamming miracles at you. From the circular platform you can jump to another platform with a chest that contains the Drakekeeper's Greataxe and Drakekeeper's Greatshield. You've now cleared the first part of the area. Jump down from the platform and walk up the stairs. You will come upon two Drakekeepers. After killing them, look back to the area above the stairs you just climbed. You should see a few barrels and crates, roll through them and jump down. There will be two chests here. The chest to the right is a Mimic. After killing the Mimic and looting the chest, proceed onward. After slaying the Mimic, follow the road to the Drakekeeper, slay him and enter the doors. Follow the staircase to the top of the tower. As you get close to the top, you will get invaded by Dragonfang Villard, who shouldn't be a real problem. Slay him and proceed by picking up the Petrified Egg. After picking it up, loot the chest to the right of it to claim a Watchdragon Parma. Jump down to the platform below, where you will find a chest with Crystal Magic Weapon. Take it or don't take it then jump down the last platform and you should be back by the Drakekeeper duo. Enter the door right after the duo and you should come across a small hallway. Just run through it and open the door on the other side. You will come out at the top of the Citadel. Before reaching the peak, however, you will have to slay the last few guardians.. Start by killing the two Drakekeepers, then proceed to aggro one of the two Dragon Knights. Kill them both, one at a time and proceed by killing the next pair of Drakekeepers. Just be sure to aggro them from a distance. After slaying them, continue up the last piece of the stairs only to be met by the last Dragon Knight. He shouldn't be much of a fight so just kill him and proceed to the Ancient Dragon. Area complete! You've looted every single item and killed every single opponent in the Dragon Shrine. You can now choose to either kill the Ancient Dragon or just talk to him to receive the Ashen Mist Heart and warp back to the last bonfire. |

Lower Drangleic Castle
- From the bridge leading up to the Castle, go to the right side of the entrance to find a chest containing a Fire Seed and Great Combustion.
- After the King's Gate bonfire, enter the door on the immediate right. Here there are six doors. Defeat an enemy near each door to open it. The final right door contains a Royal Soldier's Ring+1. The final door on the left has a collapsible floor. Fall through to meet Darkdiver Grandahl and nearby you will find the Faraam Set.
- Take the first right door in the gauntlet room to continue. The wooden chest contains 15x Dark Arrow.
- 30x Dark Arrow at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- Soon after a body has a Soul of a Hero, Monastery Charm and 3x Old Radiant Lifegem.
- Great Magic Barrier at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- Follow the stairs up to room with poison dart shooting masks, and pick up a Large Soul of a Brave Warrior and one Twinkling Titanite.
- In the acid pool, 3x Corrosive Urn inside a wooden chest.
- A Titanite Slab is added at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- The Ring of Blades +2 is dropped by the left Pursuer in the throne room on Bonfire Intensity 2+.
Upper Drangleic Castle
- 10x Fire Greatarrow in a chest in the Alonne Knight Captain hall.
- 20x Fire Greatarrow and 20x Destructive Greatarrow at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- Near the Forgotten Chamber bonfire you can find Hunter's Blackbow in a chest.
- From the Central Castle Drangleic bonfire you can find an Estus Flask Shard. Progress down the stairs from the bonfire, continuing past the room with four archers and the Primal Knight. When you get outside, there are staircases going both up and down. Going down leads to a chest with the shard, and a shortcut back to the bonfire.
Central Castle Drangleic
- Scholar of the First Sin: In the large hall after the long ladder there is an Executioner's Chariot. Once defeated it will drop Gower's Ring of Protection.
Bonfire Intensity 2+ Changes
- Drakekeeper Knight Phantom spawns near the main door to the Castle.
- Another Royal Swordsman spawns near the main door.
- Twin Pursuers spawn in the throne room.
- Elite Knight Phantom and Greatbow Phantom guard the King's Door. They spawn only after you get the King's Ring.
- Loot on a corpse after the Ruin Sentinel room changes to Great Magic Barrier.
- The wooden chest in the acid pit has a Titanite Slab in addition to 3x Corrosive Urn.
- Additional Alonne Knight Captain in the large open room.
- Washing Pole Phantom spawns in the Embedded tower.
Notes
- You will be invaded by the Nameless Usurper once you go past the cursed painting of the Queen. She spawns behind you near the painting room doorway.
- Before opening the gate, infinite Royal Soldiers will spawn in an alcove to the left of the entrance.
- If you wish to clear the room with the six soul-devouring doors, it is advisable to open the doors on one side of the room only until the ruin sentinels stop respawning, then move to the other side and repeat the process. This will insure that you only need to worry about one ruin sentinel at a time.
Drangleic
Drangleic is where the events of Dark Souls II occur. It is the kingdom in which obstacles must be overcome to find a cure for the curse.

General Notes
- The windmill near the second bonfire can be burned with a Torch. Doing so lowers the amount of poison in the boss room and removes other poison pools around the level and in Harvest Valley.
- A Pharros contraption is in the room filled with breakable poison jars. Activating it creates a water spring if you burned the windmill; if you didn't, it creates a poison spring. The water spring heals poison and restores HP.
- The summon sign of Jester Thomas is located on the right side of the staircase near the two Wardens guarding the entrance to the boss. You will not be able to see his summon sign unless you've burned the windmill.

Item Guide
Starting from The Mines bonfire in Harvest Valley, take a right and you'll come across a canyon filled with poison mist. Kill the Undead Steelworker on the wooden bridge that goes over the poison mist and head straight across. You'll find a doorway that leads into a room with poison pots and two Undead Steelworkers inside. The first Steelworker is immediately left of the door and the second one is on the other side of the room, but they're far enough apart to aggro separately. Let each one come to you so they run into the pots and becomes poisoned for some free damage.
Optional Side-path
|
Head straight across the room and you'll end up in Earthen Peak on the main path. Before continuing it is recommended to return to your previous bonfire and rest. You only need to kill three Undead Steelworkers to return to the entrance and the Covetous Demon guards the area's first bonfire, so it's a good idea to heal and recharge before you start.

Walkthrough 1 (Main Walkthrough)
This whole area is covered in a blinding blizzard. This makes it very hard to navigate, and can allow the enemies to catch you off guard. Occasionally, the blizzard will die down, allowing you to see where to go next.
From the direction you spawn facing (12:00), walking backwards to the left (7:30) will bring you to an area with two NPC summon signs.
One of the ruined houses contains a Pharros contraption which creates a healing pool of water. This can be used for NPC summons.
To get to the boss, stick to the right wall, go until you see the cliff, move along the cliff to the left you should see a path to go down and lead to the boss room. Ignore the horses, they will keep respawning more and more and you will be overwhelmed eventually if you keep on killing them. The 2 NPC summons will provide great distraction.
Frigid Outskirts & Boss Walk-through Video
Walkthrough 2 (Boring but easy)
From the coffin, walk towards the light. You should encounter one horse on your way to the wall. Kill it, and continue following the light until you hit a wall. When you hit the wall, travel to the left of it for a very, very, very long time. This is a very long way with several horses (4 or 5) but it's the easiest and you shouldn't get lost on your way. As you continue following the wall, you'll end up by the cliff sooner or later. Follow the edge of the cliff to get the Ring of the Living on a corpse, and keep going until you reach the path. Then you can enter the boss fog. If you stick to this path but die a lot by the horses, they will eventually despawn, so it is recommended to just kill them on your way. DO NOT waste any Estus while fighting the horses. You may need as much Estus as possible to win against Lud, the King's Pet & Zallen, the King's Pet.
Walkthrough with only 3 horses to fight and no human enemies.
The key to accomplishing this very easy method to get to the boss gate is to run from building to building without stopping. From the summoning area, face the first building and when the blizzard clears immediately run to the back left corner of the building. There should be no horses to kill on this stretch. Go to the front door of this building and look towards the next building. Once the blizzard clears again, run to the corpse that is slightly left of the building and about halfway there. Once you get to the corpse angle a little right and run directly towards the building. You will be in a blizzard when you get to the corpse, so you have to guess how much to turn. Do not fight the horse that will spawn, just try to dodge or tank the lightning. Once you reach the building, kill the hollows and horse, heal if necessary and prepare for the next stretch. Go to the door on the side with the Pharros Contraption and wait for the next clearing. Immediately run to the back left corner of the next building. You will not aggro the human enemy but will have one horse to dodge on the way. Once inside kill the hollow and fight the horse on the raised area inside the building. Hopefully, the rampart golem will ignore you until you are done. Kill the golem and prepare for the last stretch. Looking straight out the door where the golem was, you can see the pathway down to the bridge. You want to aim a little right of that so that you are dropping into the pathway about halfway. When it is clear run to the pathway and drop into it. Fight the single horse that should spawn down in the pathway before walking out onto the bridge. Now proceed to the boss. This can be done with or without summons. The two NPC summons will be a good distraction for the horses while you are running between buildings. Here is a video of this method showing both with and without summons:
Frigid Outskirts the easy way
Enemies
- The Ice Stallions can be despawned. The reason that there seems to be so many of them is that they appear to spawn soon after being killed instead of when the area is reloaded. I would draw a line from one point to another (e.g. from one set of ruins to the next) leaving behind a trail of Prism Stones. I would move slowly until they stopped spawning where I was and move on until they started spawning again. Eventually they would stop spawning and I could run back and forth along my line without triggering any more Ice Stallions. This line was then safe permanently after dying or using the Feather. I could then eventually run through from the start all the way to the ice bridge leading to the boss without seeing any Ice Stallions. This process takes a couple hours, but given the difficulty of the boss it might be the most efficient approach for some. The Ring of Whispers can be useful to hear them coming. Please Note: If you use Prism Stones, if you die or leave the area they will be gone.
Loot
- On a corpse, two Human Effigies.
- Ring of the Living on a body near the chasm.
- Dried Root and Mirrah Hat in a ruined house
- Lacerating Knife x20 on a corpse
- Twinkling Titanite x2 on a corpse
- Blackweed Balm on a corpse in a coffin to the right of where you spawn
- Wilted Dusk Herb on a corpse under the coffin you rode in on
Notes
- Only accessible from the Expulsion Chamber bonfire in Frozen Eleum Loyce.
- Enemies here can drop some of the DLC exclusive items for co-op summons only. Ice Stallions can drop the Bone Fist.
- A map of the area for navigation.
- Even in a blizzard, you should be able to see light coming from the north. You start in the east and the boss is in the west, so keep the light to your right if you get lost.
- Another way is to keep track of your shadow - even during blizzard it is, though barely, still visible. For example, wait in waypoint (e.g. structure) until blizzard ends, start moving towards next waypoint and remember where your shodow points to (compared to where you looking at). Even if you get engaged by Ice Stallions and defeat them while still in blizzard you will be able to keep on going without need of waiting for it to wear off. Just beware of hills as they block light from casting a shadow.
- The Sun shining in the North is very blinding. Because of this, you will not be able to see anything in this direction even if the Blizzard has passed.

Locations of the Loyce Knights
Loyce Knights will help you in the fight against the Burnt Ivory King. There are four in total.
- One
The first can be found in the Inner Wall area. To get to him, follow the usual path until you reach the three golems surrounding a chest. Head to the right, where the ice was previously blocking passage. Follow this path until you reach a door. Open it and talk to the Eleum Loyce knight who is sitting in the chair.
- Two
The second can be found once you reach the Lower Garrison bonfire. From this bonfire, open the gate to the ice cavern and continue down. Once in the cavern with the Covetous Demon, look for a passage in the leftmost wall. Follow it and head right. Follow this path until you reach an elevator. Take the elevator up and head up the hill. Once at the top of the hill you will reach a temple. Open the doors to the temple, and talk to the Eleum Loyce knight who is sitting in the chair.
- Three
The third can be found near the invasion position of Castaway Witch Donna. To reach him, you need to start at the Abandoned Dwelling bonfire, run until you reach the ramparts. Then go down the staircase that was blocked by ice, and continue until you reach the bottom of the area. Once at the bottom, head out through the tunnel and unlock the shortcut, which will allow you to run from the Inner Wall bonfire to the knight very easily. Once you have dispatched Castaway Witch Donna, open the doors to the temple, and talk to the Eleum Loyce knight who is sitting in the chair.
- Four
The fourth and final knight is already ready to fight the Burnt Ivory King, staying on a raised platform behind the fog gate.

The next chest contains seven Old Radiant Lifegems. The next chest contains three Bonfire Ascetic. The final chest contains two Brightbugs.
- On the ramparts, there is a corpse hold fifteen Prism Stones, and another holding two Goldenfruit Balm. Also, at the end of the ramparts is a Pharros Lockstone contraption. Using it will give access to a metal chest contain Durgo's Hat.
- At the opposite end of the ramparts is a metal chest holding three Elizabeth Mushrooms.
- After the ramparts there is a tower containing several dogs. Once you have the Eye of the Priestess, a previously invisible ladder will appear to the left of the door to this tower. Climb up it and open the metal chest to receive Splintering Lightning Spear. You can technically climb the ladder while it's still invisible as well. Also, at the bottom of this tower is a Human Effigy.

- In the chest surrounded by three golems is a Curved Nil Greatsword.
- Enter the area after the three golems, normally blocked by ice. Follow the path around and you will find a corpse holding three Flame Butterfly. To the right of this corpse is an illusionary wall. Open it and drop down onto the bridge. Head forward and up the staircase until you reach a metal chest. This chest contains a Fire Clutch Ring. Head back to the bridge and follow the path to the left. Eventually you will reach a ledge that drops onto a bridge. Drop down and go to the right. You should see a metal chest. The Covetous Demon himself will drop the Ivory Warrior Ring.
- In the area after the Covetous Demon, there is a corpse holding five Charcoal Pine Resin. On a ledge nearby is a corpse holding one Pharros Lockstone. Travel up the elevator to reach the other side of the broken bridge, and pick up Azal's Staff, four Radiant Lifegem and three Cracked Red Eye Orbs. Climb to the top of the hill behind you and pick up three Vine Balm from a corpse.
- To get to the Bone Fist, return to the area just before the Abandoned Dwelling bonfire, after speaking to Alsanna, Silent Oracle. There will be a new path going forward. Follow the path, light the sconces and the stone door will open into a cave. In this cave a couple of corpses. On the behind the illusionary wall is the Bone Fist, whilst on the other one is two Human Effigies. At the end of the cave is a Flexile Sentry, defeat it and pick up the Garrison Ward Key.
Notes
- Most of the loot, the Expulsion Chamber bonfire, and the Lower Garrison bonfire will be inaccessible until you defeat Aava, the King's Pet and speak to Alsanna, Silent Oracle.
- The difficulty of this area means that generally shades do not last long enough to help release the Loyce Knights. After clearing the ice you can use a bonfire ascetic at the Outer Wall bonfire to allow summoning of phantoms. This of course increases the difficulty and respawns Aava but it's worth it as the areas where the Loyce Knights are waiting have some difficult enemies that are best to take on in a group.
- Torches will immediately extinguish when the area is under a blizzard.

- The Pharros Contraption on the wall creates a waterfall from the ceiling just before the ladder. This can be used to mask your sound or the location of the ladder, increase your Fire defense or decrease the Lightning defense of opponents.
Upper Floor
- The Pharros Contraption on the floor in front of the ladder lowers the bridge across the chasm, giving you access to the same room with the Whisper of Despair hex.
- The three Pharros Contraptions on the wall make acid pour from rat statues. Standing on the acid quickly breaks armor and rings.
- The Pharros Contraption furthest in leading to the Grave Entrance bonfire activates the rat statue nearby which makes another puddle of acid in the hallway.
Notes
- It's not possible to co-op here. Summoning and normal invasion methods are disabled.
- Can be reached early with the Silvercat Ring and enough HP.
- To reach this area without taking fall damage from the Pit, you must first get Laddersmith Gilligan to move to Majula, and donate souls to him so he can make the ladders, the most expensive will lead almost all the way to the bottom and give access to a hidden room opened with the Forgotten Key. Inside are two chests containing Great Lightning Spear, Soul Vortex, Witchtree Branch, and Witchtree Bellvine. The second most expensive will take almost all the way down the well giving easy access to the Grave of Saints and the Gutter. The least expensive is a short ladder that will most likely kill you or leave you within an inch of death, use at own risk.
- When playing offline, an NPC invader, Rhoy the Explorer, invades you close to the Royal Rat Vanguard.
- Rat King covenant members can use Bonfire Ascetics at the Harval's Resting Place bonfire (at the beginning of the level) to strengthen the area's enemies, making the zone more difficult for summoned Gray Phantoms.
- At Bonfire Intensity 2 and above, Roaming Souls Dingy Cleric Phantom and Faraam Knight Phantom spawn in the pit with the Undead Citizens.
- Enemies respawn infinitely inside the Rat King Covenant area. (Scholar of the First Sin)

General Notes
- Due to the volume of poison inflicting areas and enemies, farming Poison Moss in Huntsman's Copse can be helpful if you are having trouble.
- Using a Torch while in the poison tunnels improves vision.
- Burning the windmill in Earthen Peak removes the pool of poison outside the first bonfire of the area.
- The Heirs of the Sun covenant altar can be found here. Take the path to the left where the first Undead Steelworker is.
- It's important to note that if you are actively taking damage from poison, being in the poison mist (or any exposure to poison) does not increase the damage you take or the duration of your current poisoning. It will only start affecting you again when your current poison is finished. So if you are attempting to get all the items in the poison mist you often are better off just enduring the poison, using estus to keep yourself alive, and planning on returning to a bonfire afterwards. This helps you save a lot of poison recovery items.

Harvest Valley Map (Japanese)
Item Guide
Poison Pool
The first bonfire is accessed as soon as you enter this area. It is to the right of your path, through a pool of poison. Poison will stick to you when you pass through it and will continue to build for some time after you leave the pool. Sprinting through the pool should allow you to pass through without actually poisoning your character.
Slightly beyond the bonfire, you will have your first encounter with Stone Trader Chloanne. She can sell you some spells & regular titanite shards at this point. Exhaust her dialog options and she will relocate to Majula.
Continuing on down the path, you will come to the first area filled with poison mist. Passing through the mist will build your poison gauge, but unlike the pool, doesn't stick to your player. You also encounter your first Mounted Overseer. They are slow, but their dark magic and melee attacks can be devastating. Once he is dead, you are free to collect the mass quantity of loot in the poison mist, including what is likely the first Titanite Chunk of your playthrough.
Right behind where the Mounted Overseer was located is the entrance to a small cave with a single Skeleton. Once he has been dispatched, you are free to loot the dead body hanging over the pit. The body contains a Fragrant Branch of Yore. In this same small cave there is a chest within the poison pool at the bottom containing a Fire seed and a Divine Blessing. Continue further into the cave for a chest containing a Raw Stone and another encounter with Lonesome Gavlan (only if you have already talked to him in No-Man's Wharf). Once you have finished trading with him, you can head back out of the cave.
Up the ramp, you can access the next area with two Mounted Overseers (replaced by two Desert Sorceresses in Scholar of the First Sin); use the same tactics as before or climb the ladders in the area to snipe them from range. Just be aware that there are several Undead Laborers on the cliffs as well. By climbing the ladder at the back of the small valley, you can access a switch that will open the door to the mines. Go through the gate you just opened and the Mines bonfire will be in a tunnel to the right.
The Mines
After resting at the bonfire, exit back out of the tunnel and head right into an open area without any enemies. Be careful of the open pits scattered throughout this open area; none of the drops will kill you, but you drop down into poison mist. At several points, you can drop down into the mist to access some loot and exit out without encountering enemies or major delays.
If you take a left through a gap in the wall, you can access a side area with a ton of loot. Once you reach the top of the hill, a Mounted Overseer will smash through a wall. If you circle around him, you can trigger him to attack the back wall and open access to some, otherwise unreachable, loot. (In NG+ the second wall will be broken down by an Artificial Undead). An Old Knight Pike and Old Knight Greatshield can be found on the body in the righthand corner.
Exit back through the path you entered by and about halfway through, you can access an additional area through a hole in the wall to your left. Note - once entering that area, you will not be able to exit through the hole you pass through. This is home to a fairly nasty ambush with four Artificial Undead. Avoid engaging them all at the same time. Ideally, sprinting up the ramp, looping 180 back to follow the path and breaking the wood slats blocking the exit. From there, you can engage them one at a time. This is an excellent opportunity to use Yearn. Remain in the alley and do not drop into the arena, fire Yearn across the area then pick the Artificial Undead off with Sorcery or arrows. Once they are all dead, you can access a fairly significant stash of loot. Be sure to break all of the slots to access loot hidden in the alcoves; watching out for some random Undead Laborer. Once you have collected everything, head back up the ramp and out the same path where you fought the Overseers. Going left leads to a drop into poison mist that will kill you but there is a Crystal Lizard so zap it with magic and approach the edge with caution. If you instead go right, you can access some additional loot and drop back into the open area with pits, near the bonfire. Stopping at the bonfire again is recommended at this point as you won't have to fight these enemies again.
Loot from this area:
- Fragrant Branch of Yore
- Twinkling Titanite
- Simpleton's Spice
- Skeptic's Spice
- Radiant Lifegem and soul
- Large Titanite Shard
- Green Blossom (x3 at Bonfire Intensity 2+)
- 5x Lifegem
From the bonfire, walk out again into the open area and go through the tunnel on the right side. On the other side you see a bridge, drop down to the right of this bridge, the body here contains the spell Chameleon and some additional loot in the poison mist. Once you do that, you will have to either engage or side-skirt two more Mounted Overseer.
Head back up the ramp and across the wood bridge to engage your first Undead Steelworker. From that wood bridge there are three paths. One left, one straight, one farther off to the right. Follow the path straight to a doorway that leads to another Undead Steelworker in a room full of poison pots. He'll aggro you when you take the left or right path so best to kill him now even though you're not going to actually take the straight path yet. You can aggro him without entering the room, which is highly recommended to avoid the poison pots and aggroing more enemies. Once he is dead, go take the left path instead. It'll lead around the poison mist pit to another cave. Once inside, watch for another Artificial Undead. Be careful as he tends to be at different locations in the cave when you go in. Once he has been dispatched, you can access the Heirs of the Sun covenant and learn the Praise the Sun gesture by praying at the altar.
Exit the cave and head back towards the wooden bridge and this time you want to take the right path. There will be a stone corridor leading into a room full of poison pots with two more Undead Steelworker. Try to lure the one out before entering; the second will be standing immediately to your left when you enter the room. Once both are dead you can walk through the doorway on the other side and you'll find a poison mist room. You are now in Earthen Peak and this path will have some good items (including Estus Flask Shard) before becoming a dead end. You will have to momentarily go back to Harvest Valley before entering Earthen Peak from another door. Information for this dead end and then onward can be found in a separate section within the walkthrough for Earthen Peak.

Tower of Flame Walkthrough
This is a small area with two bosses. Orienting yourself as you emerge from the sewer tunnel, the Old Dragonslayer is in the Cathedral of Blue to your left. You can avoid fighting him unless you want to join the Blue Sentinels. The Dragonrider is in the circular structure straight ahead. You must defeat him to progress to No-man's Wharf. It's worth heading toward the Cathedral first as there is valuable loot just before the boss fight. In SotFS you can ignore all the sitting Heide Knights, they are passive until hit, or you kill the Dragonrider.
After exiting the sewers, head towards the first Old Knight. Before you get to him take the path to the right down to the bonfire. You can run past the Knights easily but you will want to defeat the two that guard switches. The Knights will pursue you so you may wish to eliminate them. Stay close, circle and roll. Be wary of falling off the narrow path into the sea. The second Knight who wields a great hammer will not respawn so taking him out will make subsequent run throughs easier. He does respawn in SotFS. There is loot on a corpse to the right of the stairs. The third Knight guards a switch that raises an outer ring of floor in the Dragonrider's area which will make that fight much easier.
Follow the path into the large circular structure and head left to the Cathedral of Blue or right to the Dragonrider. There are three Knights in here but you can just run past. Heading left you will find loot down stairs to your left and two more Knights before a set of stairs straight ahead. Continue up the stairs to an open platform. The enemies will follow you so be quick. The final sword-wielding Knight awaits. Circle and roll, trying to hit his back. If the last two Knights arrive, backtrack across the narrow walkway for some breathing space and healing if needed. Stay locked onto the original Knight because as soon as he is dead, the switch will appear. Activate the switch and a drawbridge to the Cathedral of Blue with appear. The drawbridge will now be permanent. At the top of the bridge is a chest with the Ring of Binding. Enter the Cathedral of Blue through the fog gate and fight the Old Dragonslayer.
Head back to take the path to Dragonrider or travel back to the first bonfire if you haven't activated the switch behind the Knight. In the large circular building with the three Knights, there is a switch which raises another ring of floor in the Dragonrider boss area. Leaving the large circular building, follow the stairs down to the right. There is a chest to the right and a Knight to the left before the fog gate. Run past him and enter, or fight him in order to summon an NPC White Phantom, Masterless Glencour.
In the boss fight, stay close to Dragonrider, circle and roll to your left and hit him in the back. Manage your stamina carefully as quick rolling is the key here. His swings are easily avoided. He will try to bash you with his shield and break your poise. Don't back away as he will charge you. Be careful of falling in this confined space. When victorious, head through the door and up the stairs to the bonfire and to talk to Licia of Lindeldt who sells miracles. Carry on to No-man's Wharf.
Notes
- The first lever is behind the second sword-wielding Knight from the Heide's Ruin bonfire. You must kill the Knight.
- The second lever is within the circular room with three Old Knights after the Heide's Ruin bonfire. You must kill all the Knights.
- The third lever is near the drawbridge to Cathedral of Blue, you must kill the Knight next to it for it to appear. In Scholar of the First Sin, the Knight is replaced by a Guardian Dragon.
- Activating the first and second lever before entering the Dragonrider boss fight will extend the floor tiles to cover the water-filled holes in his room.
- Burning a Bonfire Ascetic at the first bonfire:
- Respawns the Dragonrider
- Respawns the Old Knight that drops Sublime Bone Dust (Not in SotFS).
- Replaces the Lloyd's Talisman with a Skeptic's Spice
- The chest that initially grants you Green Blossoms will give you three Green Blossoms in addition to three Human Effigies
- Spawns a few Halberd wielding phantoms in the area, and a couple more Old Knights throughout the area
- Burning an Ascetic at the first bonfire does not affect the Cathedral of Blue - as a result, the bridge to the Old Dragonslayer boss fight stays lowered if you previously lowered it, and neither the chest nor the corpse will spawn new items, and Old Dragonslayer will not respawn.
- Burning an Ascetic at the bonfire after the Dragonrider has no effect in the area.
- Sorcerers can safely farm the Old Knights with their 30 soul arrows for an easy lead in souls over other classes

Description
The Undead hunts during the reign of the Iron King took place in this forest, and the cells in which the Undead were held still stand there to this day.
However, the march of time has eroded any difference between the captors and the captives.1
The Huntsman Copse is, at first, a cave like area leading in from Majula, that opens in to a small forested area with a few buildings. It is initially locked until Licia of Lindeldt is spoken to at Heide's Tower of Flame after defeating the Dragonrider. Exhausting her dialogue here will prompt her to move to the rotunda room in Majula, next to the contraption that cannot be activated on the way to Heide's.
She will request 2,000 souls to make the contraption turn, opening a clear path to Huntsman's Copse.

Loot
- Right after opening path to Huntsman' Copse there is body with Rouge Water on it.
- From the Undead Refuge bonfire, follow the path until you reach the ruined building. Enter the building. There are two bodies on a floor. One next to a hole has Lifegem and Soul of a Nameless Soldier and the one in a corner Bandit's Knife. Climb the ladder. On the roof, roll onto the ledge and pick up a Poison Moss and Lifegem.
- Leaving the ruined building in the Undead Refuge area, dash jump to land on a ruined outcrop and pick up a Token of Fidelity and a Pharros Lockstone. If you are afraid of that jump you can drop there from bridge that leads to Undead Purgatory.
- From previous location jump towards the bonfire. This will lead you to cave with Great Moths. You will find there a body with Monastery Charm and Soul of a Proud Knight.
- At the bottom a a cave there will be Ricard's Rapier in a metal chest guarded by a Torturer (Dark Souls II) / Giant Basilisk (Scholar of the First Sin). On the way out, next to the cage elevator there will be a body with Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier
- From the Bridge Approach bonfire, head forward and then left of the bridge to pick up a Large Soul of a Lost Undead and Small Orange Burr.
- After crossing bridge you will see a body under a tree on your left. It has only a Lifegem on it. Far ahead you will see Artificial Undead turning his back on you. He is standing in front of a body with Aromatic Ooze.
- Stick to the left wall and you will find a hut with Morning Star and Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier.
- Go upwards and until you find the large metal bridge structure. Follow the edge until you can see a hole in a cage building and drop in to pick up Soul Spear, Green Blossom and Poison Moss.
- If you turn right after first bridge you will come across another one and a path to Undead Purgatory. There is a dead end to the right - you will find there Notched Whip.
- In a cave across great metal bridge there is a body next to Curse Jar. It has Magic Mace and Titanite Shard on it.
- After crossing great metal bridge stick to the left wall. Eventually you will across ambush involving Crystal Lizard. There will be 10 Throwing Knives on a body. You can drop down from a cliff on a small shelf. There is a body with Poison Moss. Drop down further and you will fine an alcove with the Undead Lockaway Key.
- Turn right in front of a boss gate and enter second part of a cave. In cave stick to the right wall and you will find body with Combustion and Titanite Shard. Explore rest of the cave and you will find a body with x3 Flame Butterfly on it just next to a lever that opens a shortcut.
NG+ changes
- The body with Aromatic Ooze has three portions instead of just one.
- In NG+, two Red Phantom Artificial Undead will spawn as you start to walk from the alcove containing the Undead Lockaway Key towards the waterfall. As soon as you pass the small scrub bush on the edge of the path, one will spawn in front of you, one behind you. You can squeeze past the one behind you by hugging the inner wall and running/rolling past him, and can lead him to the open area where the crystal lizard was, to fight in a better location.
- There is another Red Phantom Artificial Undead at the very top of the building you first get into after the cave system. However, unless you're noisy this enemy will leave you alone while on the roof, since it's facing the other way.
- Why is the Artificial Undead facing the other way? To make things harder for you on the way to the Undead Purgatory. The Torturers waiting at the top of the poles on the way there are also tougher, more aggressive Red Phantom versions now. You can lure the closest one down for a one-on-one fight, but once you get past a certain treshold they will ALL drop down and dash towards you, leaving you to fight four high-caliber Torturers at once.
- If you don't want to fight them, you can dash through quickly, and lead them to the bridge. Get past the two holes in the bridge, and prepare your best ways to push them off. For a caster, Soul Vortex works very well to force off everyone but the Artificial Undead phantom. Just be sure to not stay locked on to the ones who are falling down.
Notes
- Licia of Lindeldt helps you open the passage from Majula to Huntsman's Copse. If she is hostile, you need to kill her to get the Rotunda Lockstone and unlock the way yourself.
- The area design for the early portion of this level is modeled after Hotel del Salto in Colombia.

Walkthrough
Map (Japanese)
Starting from the bonfire, continue through the passageway until you reach a lever in the middle of a room with cells in front of it. Here you will have 2 options to proceed through this area, both being quite difficult if you are unprepared.
Lever Route
If you use the lever in the first room, a gate will open, allowing you to bypass most of the enemies. However, you must get through the gauntlet within 8 seconds after pulling the lever, otherwise the gate will have closed.
After the first gauntlet, there is a single Astrologist. Continuing on you will reach the second gauntlet's lever. Watch out for the Fume Sorcerer that will spawn near it. After pulling this lever, you will have 8 seconds to reach the end of the gauntlet, which is longer this time. After this gauntlet, you will see another Astrologist in the leftmost passage.
Drop down the other passage to access the Possessed Armor, the 3x Old Growth Balm and the 3x Cracked Red Eye Orb in the room that precedes the blue Smelter Demon. If you summon either of the NPC phantoms, they will head for the boss door through the other route.
It is possible to clear the route from enemies before pulling the lever by using Soul Appease. It can hit them through the wall.
Dash Route
This route is accessed by dropping down the leftmost passage in the room with the first lever. This leads to a sequence of caverns which contain multiple enemies, ranged attacks can be useful as there enemies on platforms you cannot reach if you go this route. It is possible to summon the two NPC summons for this route, allowing you to ignore most of the enemies safely as you dash through.
Co-op
If you decide to summon a player phantom there are two good ways to clear out the passage, you can also run through it.
The first involved letting the phantoms through the lever gate and letting them clear out all the enemies on the ledges in the passage. Just pull the lever and let them pass through the grate and then either kill or let the Iron Warriors in the cells reset. This is not recommended if you summon a npc since they can get stuck in the passage by the grate. If you as a phantom decide to block the fireballs to allow the host through note that after blocking three shots the Iron Warriors will start to attack you.
The second involves simply killing everything in the rooms, you can try to run through the rooms but this may cause your phantom to die. If you decide on running you can stop when you have dropped down into the room with the fog door to buff, heal and change equipment.
If you decide to clear the rooms without using the lever this is easily done by shooting the casters with poison arrows and then killing the Iron Warriors. One of you shoots arrows while the other holds a shield in front of him, blocking the lighting spears and arrows. The casters on the ledges often does not recognize that they have been hit if a phantom shoots them, therefore it is best if the host shoots and the phantom blocks. Not activating the switch and killing everything is most likely the best strategy since the others can be difficult to communicate (it is the one I have had the most success with).
Loot
- 7x Large Titanite Shard, found in the third cell on the right in the first gauntlet.
- 2x Crimson Water found on the low ledge in the first room of the Dash route. You must past the first gauntlet of the Lever route to reach the item however.
- Simpleton's Spice and 5x Torch in the second cell gauntlet.
- 2x Wilted Dusk Herb on a ledge.
- 3x Old Growth Balm and 3x Cracked Red Eye Orb found on the ledge in the room preceding the blue Smelter Demon.
- Dried Root on the ground before the boss.
- Pharros Mask, found in the area after the blue Smelter Demon arena.

Walkthrough
Majula Map (Japanese)
If you just started the game, your first trip should be to Forest of Fallen Giants. Although other areas are also early accessible from Majula, they contain dangerous foes and are best visited later.
Path to Forest of Fallen Giants
There is a path near the bonfire. Enter the tunnel, there is a metal chest in an alcove to your right, At Bonfire Intensity 2 and SotFS it's a Mimic that drops a Rusted Coin. Follow the tunnel until you encounter a gate. Pull the lever and enter Forest of Fallen Giants.
Path to Heide's Tower of Flame
Between Shalquoir's house and path to Company of Champions there is an entrance. For now, ignore the mechanism in the rotunda room. Follow the stairs down. There is a metal chest to the left at the bottom of the stairs. You will see a big gate, open it with a pulley and enter Heide's Tower of Flame.
Path to Huntsman's Copse
You can only enter this area if you defeated the Dragonrider and talked to Licia of Lindeldt. If you did so, she moved to the rotunda room. Talk to her here and she will offer to open the path to Huntsman's Copse for 2,000 souls.
Path to Grave of Saints and the Gutter
If you already finished Earthen Peak and killed the boss there, Laddersmith Gilligan will be sitting next to the Pit. You can pay him to set up ladders that will lead you down to these areas. As an alternative you can buy a Silvercat Ring from Sweet Shalquoir which will reduce damage taken from falling. Drop down one ledge at a time and heal when you take damage. First opening will lead to Grave of Saints and the one beneath it leads to the Gutter.
Path to Shaded Woods
Backtrack as you would go to Things Betwixt but go right. You will enter the path that leads to Shaded Woods. Benhart of Jugo is sitting here. He can't move forward just as you, until you unpetrify Rosabeth of Melfia. She was turned to stone and is blocking the lever. Use a Fragrant Branch of Yore to unpetrify her and unlock the entrance to Shaded Woods.
Notes
- The Far Fire bonfire here is the only bonfire you can use to reinforce Estus Flasks with Sublime Bone Dust.
- On the monument by the sea where Saulden sits, the plaque next to him will disclose the number of "Global Deaths" experienced by all players of Dark Souls II at the moment you read it. If the game is in offline mode the plaque will show the number of deaths on your current character.
- For every level of Bonfire Intensity (up to 8), another non-respawning Skeleton is added to the basement of the mansion. They have a 100% chance to drop a Human Effigy.
- The flames on the mansion map turn to blue if you use a total of 8 Bonfire Ascetic (not counting playthrough number) on the corresponding bonfire of each flame.
- The shattered remains of the Lordvessel from Dark Souls can be found in the basement of the mansion.
Monument Plaque
- There is another plaque behind the monument. If you were to examine it prior to patch 1.08, a message will be displayed saying The text is illegible.
- However, for reasons unknown, prior to patch 1.08, the plaque in the Portuguese version of the game read Os gigantes cruzaram os mares, talvez para voltar para casa, which translates to "The giants crossed the seas, perhaps to return home".
- This plaque as of patch 1.08 (22 July 2014) reads "Seek the land of an ancient king, in the Black Gulch, deep below" in all versions of the game, likely added to suggest that the player go to Black Gulch in order to find the entrance to Shulva, Sanctum City, the first area of the Crown of the Sunken King DLC.

Memory of Jeigh Video Walk-through - Entrance at 28:35
- Take the stairs to the right up and through the fog gate. You will emerge into a chaotic scene. There are two Elite Giants in the distance fighting a group of Royal Soldiers.
- You can find a Bonfire Ascetic near the start.
- Watch out for fire falling from skies and a large statue head which will fall and roll throughout the arena.
- A body before the boss has an Old Radiant Lifegem. At Bonfire Intensity 2+ it changes to a Divine Blessing.
- On the platform next to the boss is a body with a Fire Seed.
- At the end you will have to fight the Giant Lord. After you defeat him look for items you might have missed and enter the door behind the Giant Lord. Get the Soul of a Giant from a Giant's body and leave the memory.
Notes
- Can be used near the end of playthrough for infinite souls farming. Simply use a Bonfire Ascetic, grab the loot in the memory and kill the boss.
- Upon exiting the memory, Royal Sorcerer Navlaan will invade if the lever in Aldia's Keep has been pulled.
- A unique corpse of a giant can be found here. Badly burnt, it is unlike the corpses of others that can be found, as this one possesses a face. Said face is rather ape-like in appearance, though also possessing pure white eyes and shark-like teeth.
- With a full set of souls gained gear you will gain 570,169 souls for clearing the memory at Bonfire Intensity 8+.

- 3x Soul of a Hero in a trapped wooden chest beyond the wall opened by the first Pharros Contraption.
- Steel Set & a Fire Seed beyond an illusory wall directly to the right of the second Pharros Contraption. Activating the second Pharros Contraption is not necessary.
- Soul of a Brave Warrior on a corpse atop a wall. Drop down the first opening from the rooftop with the Giant Pyromancer and Giant Warrior.
- Grand Lance & 3x Bonfire Ascetics in chests in a hard to reach room with a Giant Warrior. To get to the room you must first break the wooden plank behind the last wooden wheel on the roof with a Giant Pyromancer. This lowers a small wooden platform which you can drop down to and use to sprint off or get a running jump through a hole in the wall to access the chests. Recommended to use Silvercat Ring during drop down to wooden platform.
- In Scholar of the First Sin, this area does not contain the Grand Lance, but instead several Skeptic's Spices and Simpleton's Spices.
- 3x Wilted Dusk Herbs after exiting the hole in the room with 3 Bonfire Ascetics on a corpse or by following the scaffolding that can be accessed by a ladder in the courtyard floor.

General information
Examine the remains of King Vendrick's armor set at the end of Undead Crypt to enter the memory.
Requires Ashen Mist Heart and one DLC crown to access the next segment of dialogue.
Connections
- Undead Crypt
Notes
- Vendrick is an NPC in this area.
- Attempting to attack Vendrick or walk out of the area results in the player immediately exiting the memory (can be re-entered).
- Obtaining the King's Crown and one DLC crown is required to unlock the next set of dialogue.
- Further dialogue is unlocked as you collect the remaining crowns.
- There seems to be a glitch where you can't access the memory even with the ashen mist heart, unsure how this is caused.
- You must have all crowns in your possession (not stored in your Item Box) to receive Vendrick's Blessing.
- If the player runs to the top of the staircase, Velstadt's back can be seen just before leaving the memory.
Vendrick's Blessing
If you talk to Vendrick after obtaining his crown (King's Crown) and the other three DLC crowns (Crown of the Sunken King, Crown of the Old Iron King and Crown of the Ivory King) a short cutscene will play. Afterwards the three DLC crowns and the King's Crown will provide an extra hidden effect when you're wearing one of them:
- When you die you will no longer go hollow / become more hollow.
- You are immune to Curse.
To unlock this reward you must have earned all three DLC crowns in a single playthrough (e.g., not spread across NG+ and NG++). The effect only lasts for your current playthrough, and will not carry over to the next NG level.
Dialogue with Vendrick
+ Show Dialogue - Hide Dialogue
- When spoken to in Memory of the King
- Seeker of fire, coveter of the throne.
I am Vendrick, ruler of Drangleic. - Seeker of fire, deliverer of crowns.
What do you see in the flames?
Find the crowns, and your own answers.
The crowns hold the strength of lords from time long past.
Seek adversity, as befits you. - Seeker of fire, coveter of the throne.
I'm no king, I'm more fit to be a jester.
I was unaware of my own blindness.
We are feeble vessels, with feeble souls.
We will cast aside the prop of life, only to face greater hardship.
Are you another such fool? Or something more? - I fail to see your design, young moth.
I fail to see your design, wee moth.
But, I see very little, these days.
- Seeker of fire, coveter of the throne.
- Continues here if player has one DLC crown and the King's Crown.
- Seeker of fire, conqueror of Dark.
I too sought fire once.
With fire, they say, a true king can harness the curse.
A lie, but I knew no better…
Seeker of fire, you know not the depth of Dark within you.
It grows deeper still, the more flame you covet.
Flame, oh, flame… - I am king of this wretched, unraveled kingdom.
I subdued the giants, and claimed their strength.
So that I might step closer to fire…
Drangleic will fall, The fire will fade, and the souls of old will reemerge.
With Dark unshackled, a curse will be upon us…
And men will take their true shape…
(The last three lines are repeated when spoken to again.)
- Seeker of fire, conqueror of Dark.
- Continues here if player has two DLC crowns.
- Seeker of Fire… I see you subdued another foul creature.
One of the father of the abyss spawn… that confounded quintessence of humanity.
The abyss once had form but then dissipated.
And yet… traces of it's existence endured.
Each fragment thirsting for power spread dark with no relent.
My dear 'shandra was one such fragment.
A feeble, tiny thing that thirsted for power more than any other.
Driven by insatiable lust for a worthy vessel. - Fire came to be and with it disparity.
Heat and cold, life and death, light and dark.
Dark was seen as a curse.
Shadow is not cast but born of fire.
And the brighter the flame, the deeper the shadow.
Inherit fire and harness the dark.
Such is the calling of a true leader.
(Repeats from line three.)
- Seeker of Fire… I see you subdued another foul creature.
- Continues here if player has all three DLC crowns.
- //One day fire will fade and dark will become a curse.
Men will be free from death; left to wander eternally.
Dark will again be ours and in our true shape
We can bury the false legends of yore.
…only is this our only choice?
- //One day fire will fade and dark will become a curse.
Seeker of fire, coverer of the Throne
Seek strength.
The rest will follow.//
- If player attempts to attack Vendrick
- Foolish…
- Foolish…

Video Walkthrough - All items and Boss Fight
Cross the bridge from the bonfire after the Dragonrider fight in Heide's Tower of Flame, and head down the spiral staircase. Before exiting the room, head around and underneath the staircase to find a Monastery Charm. Continuing forward, you will fight a greatsword-wielding Old Knight, then one with a sword and shield. Try not to kill the one with the Greatsword before getting too close to the other. If you head along the path where the sword-and-shield Old Knight was standing, you will find a few dead bodies holding Dark Troches and an Old Knight Halberd. Continue through the area to the right.
After descending the stairs and exiting into the bigger room, you can either head right or left. Left is a dead end, so head right and kill the Old Knight in the way. Go down the elevator to the flooded area. Continue down the path, but be careful of the Old Knight on your left. Head up the staircase behind him and head to the right for a treasure chest containing the Knight Set of armor. In SotFS, the Old Knight is replaced by several hollows hidden in the water and a Basilisk, there's a petrified hollow blocking stairs. Use a Fragrant Branch of Yore to get past him and pick up the Estus Flask Shard on the corpse nearby, behind the Rusted Primal Knight.
Go back down the stairs to where you fought the Old Knight and continue along the hallway. Head through the hole in the wall to reach a bonfire.
Bonfire: Unseen Path to Heide
The woman standing next to the bonfire is Lucatiel of Mirrah.** Talk to her a few times to exhaust her dialogue and get her to warm up to you, allowing you to summon her for future boss fights. Continue out into the wharf, but as you do, be wary of the body on the ground to your left, as it is an enemy playing dead. Ignore the enemy shooting arrows for now and head straight into the room with the light and a few tables. Two hollows will attack, one from either side, so be careful. Go up the stairs for a chest containing a Titanite Shard. Go out onto the balcony and kill the enemy there, then grab the Soul of a Proud Knight. Head towards the enemy shooting arrows at you. When you fight him, the portion of the bridge might collapse, but don't fret. You won't have to backtrack or anything, but you might pull the aggro of a few enemies at once, rather than one at a time.
Start heading across the bridge left of the archer, grabbing the Large Soul of a Lost Undead and the Lifegem in the water to the left along the way. If he hasn't yet, an enemy dual wielding swords will attack you. He is weak and can be stunlocked pretty easily, but he can dish out quite a bit of damage if you get caught in a combo. Head into the shack on the left for Dark Pine Resin x3. Ignore the stairs leading up for now. There is an enemy in the other shack, but nothing else. In the building to the right of that, there is a Dark Stalker enemy. These can be very dangerous due to their far reaching attacks, so try to bait them into attacking, roll past, then combo from behind, and repeat. Additionally, Dark Stalkers are afraid of light, so light a torch and chase them back, then finish them off with a weapon. In the building containing the Dark Stalker, there are a measly ten Iron Arrows.
Go up the staircase in between the shacks. There is a small doorway on the left. It doesn't lead to anything (there is another hollow waiting there, kill the hollow and then break the shelf, it leads to a hidden copse with Ring of Life Protection)***; it just provides an alternate path to the top. Be careful of all the enemies at the top. It is easy to be overwhelmed, so retreat down the staircase and pick them off as necessary. Midway, head to the right, instead. Kill the hollowed soldier and the dog, and be careful of the archer on the roof. Before heading left into the building, head right to where a Pharros Lock can be found. Activation of the Pharros Lock lights up the giant lantern over this area giving protection from Dark Stalker attacks. If you walk off behind the Pharros Lock, you can find a corpse with three Smooth and Silky Stones and a Large Soul of a Proud Knight. Head back around and into the building with the archer. On the ground floor, there are three hollows, with two playing dead at a table to your left. Dispatch them, then head behind the bar on your left to find a chest containing a Bandit Axe and the Brigand Armor set. Go upstairs, but be careful of the enemy that will drop down behind you. If you run up quickly enough, you can attack him before he turns around to come after you. Grab the chest he was standing in front of for a Repair Powder and a Titanite Shard. On the balcony, kill the archer and notice the door on your left. This is a shortcut that can be accessed later from the other side. Drop down from the balcony.
Go back to the staircase in between the shacks and continue up. The building on your left with a hole in the face leads to a dead end, so ignore it and head right. Go past the other building with a hole in the front, as it also contains nothing, and head up the stairs alongside it, which lead to several Dark Stalker enemies. The dead body on the ledge to the right after the third Dark Stalker is holding a Large Soul of a Lost Undead and the Emit Force miracle. Head into the building opposite the dead body, but be careful, as there will be several Dark Stalkers that burst through the left wall inside as you try to access the door. Lure them out so as not to get pinned against a wall. After killing all four Dark Stalkers inside the building, go into the room upstairs to find two chests. The one on the left contains a Greatsword. The one on the right has two Silver Talismans, but be very careful, as it also contains an arrow trap that will trigger when you open it, so put your shield up and try to get slightly to the left or right to stand between the arrows. In this room, you will also find Lonesome Gavlan for the first time. Gavlan is a merchant that will sell you several items, but more importantly, will buy items no longer needed from you in exchange for souls. This is a great way to get something back for the items you know you will never use or duplicates of an item. It is also recommended to buy the Ring of Giants that he sells for 5,000 souls, which increases poise, as it is likely that you don't have many rings at this point in the game, and this one is quite useful. Also, it would help to buy some poison attack items like the throwing knives or the Rotten Pine Resin for the upcoming boss fight.
After wheeling and dealing with Gavlan, exit the building and continue along the path. Go up the stairs in the next building, killing the hollows along the way, to find a lever. Pull this lever to cause the ghost ship to reposition itself closer to you. Roll down to the area left of the lever to find a generous corpse who kindly relinquishes its two Lifegems and its Homeward Bone. Turn around and face the area you dropped from and fall down to another platform with a doorway. On the stairs is a body holding some Fire Arrows. Downstairs, two Dark Stalkers wait for you. Exit and walk to the right down the rocky slope to an area where you can light your torch to help fight the Dark Stalkers you find nearby. Go into the small building just beyond that fire. Up against the wall under the staircase, there is an illusory wall, so walk up to it and press X (A on XB360) to find one chest containing three Firebombs and another with a Large Titanite Shard. Go upstairs and interact with the pullchain to open the aforementioned shortcut to the earlier areas of the wharf. Exit this building.
Before going down where the Dark Stalker was to get to the ghost ship, head left into a room with two hollows playing dead at a table and several jars of poison. On the right is a chest with an Estus Flask Shard. Immediately to the left of this chest, you will notice a section of the wall looks a bit out of place. Attack it to break it down, yielding a nice little hidden treasure trove. Kill the Crystal Lizard for its ore, then grab the Soul of a Nameless Soldier, Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier, Lifegem x3, Fading Soul, and Royal Soldier's Ring on the bodies and in the chest, respectively. Lastly, Throwing Knife x7 and a Flame Butterfly await behind two more poison jars in this room. Exit, and continue on towards the ghost ship.
Grab the Human Effigy and Lifegem x2 on the dead body draped across the sunken rowboat in the shallow water, but be wary of the enemy to the right of it. There are a couple enemies hanging off the side of the bridge that will ambush you as you pass, so pay heed. Before going towards the ghost ship, go right along the bridge, then left to the platform. Here, you will find Carhillion of the Fold, who will sell you spells and sorcery-related items, but only if you talk to him with at least 8 INT (the Ring of Knowledge can not be used to meet this requirement). Be sure to exhaust his dialogue fully to get him to relocate to Majula. When finished, go to the ghost ship.
On the deck of the ship, four hollows will attack, so take them out and go inside the ship. Through the fog gate is the boss fight.
Quicker Route
There is a much quicker route through No-man's Wharf if you do not wish to get all of the loot. First you must use a bow or crossbow to snipe the bell that summons the ship containing the Flexile Sentry. After which you continue normally through the area activating the light using the Pharros' Lockstone as described above if you wish. After which you will go up the stairs and walking towards the house containing Lonesome Gavlan. Right before this there you will see a item on a small outcropping this is the miracle Emit Force and after collecting it turn right and look down and you will see a wooden ledge below you. You have to walk off the outcropping so that you land on the ledge and then fall down to the next ledge and finally the ground. If you do this correctly you will take very little damage and you will be right before the staircase leading to the dock that connects to the ship. After that you just continue and fight the Flexile Sentry as the next section details. This path is for those who dislike the area and just wish to get it over with and will get you done in about 5 minutes if that if you kill the boss on the first try. This route is not faster than the shortcut but you do have to fight less enemies and as such you can just sprint through.
Boss Fight: Flexile Sentry
The Flexile Sentry is an enemy with two torsos sharing a pair of legs. One side of him has scimitars, which attack quickly. The other side has two clubs, which are slower, but do more damage. Since he has no back, try to stay close, bait him into attacking, then move to his side and combo a bit, then back off. The pillar in the middle of the room can be useful for separating you from the boss, especially if you don't have a 100% Phys Reduction shield. The poison items make this fight go much more quickly, so try to use them. After two minutes the water in the room will begin to rise. It won't kill you, but it will make it much harder to move around, so try to kill him as quickly as possible.
After the Flexile Sentry is dead, be sure to get the treasure chest in the room up the ladder for a Pyromancy Flame and the Fireball pyromancy, then interact with the compass to be taken to the Lost Bastille.
Notes
- The summon sign of Lucatiel of Mirrah can be found next to the pullchain for the shortcut gate.
** SotfS: Lucatiel is located in a room after you climbed the first set of stairs an then left into a building. Same Room where you can find 3 Human Effigy behind a destroyable wardrobe

Loot
The Old Akelarre
- An Estus Flask Shard is in a room opposite of the bonfire.
The Ruined Fork Road
- Take the middle path and you will find a Red Tearstone Ring in a muddy pool of water.
- Take the path on the left. Walk around the aqueduct to find the Ring of Life Protection on a corpse.
- Behind the Flexile Sentry(no Sentry in SotfS) is the Dragonslayer's Crescent Axe and Golden Falcon Shield.
The Misty Forest
- In the middle of the misty forest there is a chest which contains the Clear Bluestone Ring +1.
- There are also two corpses in middle area, one with the Amber Herb and one with a Soul of a Nameless soldier and a Radiant Life Gem.
- 2x Lloyd's Talisman on a corpse. Hug the right side wall from the bonfire to find it.
- At Bonfire Intensity 2+, the corpse also has the Gower's Ring of Protection.
- The Old Sun Ring in a chest. Continue hugging the right side wall past corpse to find it.
- Chloranthy Ring+1 in a chest. Continue hugging the right side edge past the chest to find it.
- There is a Fire Seed behind Head of Vengarl. Hug left side wall from bonfire to find it.
- Just past the opening to Head of Vengarl is a corpse with a Human Effigy and a Soul of a Proud Knight.
- Near the forest's exit there is a Soul of a Brave Warrior on a corpse. The easiest way to find it is to find the path leading up to the Shaded Ruins bonfire (hug the left wall, going past Vengarl), then turn around and look back at the forest. If you are far enough away, the fog thins and you can just make out the glow of the item sitting on the corpse in the distance.
The Shaded Ruins
- The petrified Lion Clan Warrior next to the Shaded Ruins bonfire has the Fang Key.
- Run forward and jump down to the ledge on the right, to pick up Soul of a Brave Warrior and a Firebomb.
- Run up the ramp and dash jump to the left onto a broken bridge. Run inside the ruins to the left to pick up a Soul of a Brave Warrior and a Twilight Herb. In SoTFS you will find a Royal Guard guarding a chest containing Sublime Bone Dust in the ruins.
- Run up the ramp and dash jump left onto a broken bridge, then dash jump into a small room to the left, open the chest and pick up the Black Knight Halberd.
- Run forward and to the left. Once you leave the building the bonfire was in, go to the left into another ruined building and down the stairs. Roll into the big barrels and pick up a Pharros Lockstone and a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
- From the Shaded Ruins bonfire, run forward and to the left. Once you leave the building the bonfire was in, go to the left into another ruined building and down the stairs. Go pass the big barrels into the scorpion arena and head to the left, where you should see a Crystal Lizard and a chest. Open the chest to get the Dark Scythe.
- In the sand pit waits Manscorpion Tark. Equip the Ring of Whispers and he'll ask you to kill Scorpioness Najka, the boss of the area. Return to him after the fight and he'll give you a Fragrant Branch of Yore. Return to him after killing the Duke's Dear Freja and he will give you the Second Dragon Ring. He drops the Second Dragon Ring when killed.
- From the sand pit, head downwards and pick up a Torch. Pass the Lion Clan Warrior, and edge along the cliff straight in front of the archway. Drop down and pick up a Human Effigy and a Soul of a Proud Knight.
- From the Shaded Ruins bonfire, run forward. Once you get to the Lion Clan Warrior, head forward and left into the ruined foundations. Open the chest here to receive a Bleeding Serum and a Human Effigy, and in SotFS, the Repair Sorcery.
- The chest you can see from the Shaded Ruins bonfire has a Petrified Dragon Bone and a Titanite Chunk.
- Next to the boarded floor you can pick up a Lifegem.
- Divine Blessing at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- The chest behind the petrified Lion Warrior contains the Lion Mage Set and another Fragrant Branch of Yore. If you have a low equipment burden you can align yourself behind the chest and slightly to the right. You can jump over the wall if you aim slightly right of the lowest section of the wall but you will need to warp back to the bonfire to get out without using a branch.
- On top of the ruined tower is a Skeptic's Spice and a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
- In the ruins behind the Giant Basilisk is a Pharros Lockstone and a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
- Down in the Basilisk den is a piece of Twinkling Titanite.
- Three at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
Notes
- Creighton the Wanderer sits at the entrance to the misty forest if you talked to him in Huntsman's Copse.
- Scholar of the First Sin: Creighton is at the top of the right stone tower on the road leading to Scorpioness Najka.
- If you want to go back the other way through the interlock between Majula and Shaded Woods, it can be reset by resting at a bonfire or warping. If you want to avoid using a bonfire/Homeward Bone/Aged Feather, the mechanism will also reset itself if you wait in the room for several minutes.
- Weaponsmith Ornifex is trapped behind a locked door in the hole next to the Giant Basilisk (Only in Dark Souls II, in SotFS normal Basilisks spawn here). Use the Fang Key, dropped by the petrified Lion Warrior next to the bonfire, to open the door and free her.
- Next to the ruined towers on the way to Scorpioness Najka you can find a boarded up hole hidden in grass. Drop down to find Darkdiver Grandahl.
- You may want to wear Jester's Robes while exploring Misty Forest, as the Forest Guardian enemies can backstab you for high damage.

A large, open, flooded area located beneath a tangled roof of enormous roots.
Movement is slowed when in water, which is a huge disadvantage as there are numerous Lizardmen hiding in the water and Amana Shrine Maidens that will constantly fire Homing Soul Arrows at the player.
It's highly recommended to either practice dodging their spells or bring a long-ranged attack. Preferably both.

Loot
First Cavern
- Under the Tower of Prayer bonfire, open the door and knock off the Flame Butterfly and Twinkling Titanite from the branch, dropping to the floor. Collect it later.
- From the Tower of Prayer bonfire door, follow the path until you reach a wooden chest behind a bunch of wooden crates. Carefully kill the enemy without breaking the chest! Open the chest to receive a Skeptic's Spice and two Wilted Dusk Herb.
- At the bottom of the Tower of Prayer bonfire, under the staircase you will find Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier.
- Changes to Soul of a Brave Warrior at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- After exiting the Tower of Prayer, there is a chest hidden in the water to the left containing an Elizabeth Mushroom.
- Get a Smooth & Silky Stone from Milfanito.
- Behind the Milfanito's cabin is a chest containing three Crimson Water.
- To the left of the cabin, pick up the Soul of a Lost Undead, Torch, Soul of a Lost Undead, Skeptic's Spice and Large Soul of a Proud Knight.
- Before the first cave, there is a partially-submerged chest on the left side containing a Dragon Charm.
- Inside a cave on the left path, on the left hand side of the cave is a chest containing Twinkling Titanite and three Smooth & Silky Stone.
Second Cavern
- From the Crumbled Ruins bonfire before the second cabin, behind the Ogre there is a narrow, submerged path through the water and out into the lake with two Shrine Maidens and a Lizardman. Use a torch to illuminate the path and follow it to the end to find an Estus Flask Shard and Sunlight Blade in an iron chest found underwater.
- If you hug the left side of the area as you progress you will eventually find a Pharros contraption underwater near the left wall between two pillars, which opens a small room on that wall with a chest with a Helix Halberd.
- Proceeding along the ruined, curved walls in the middle of the cavern, there is a corpse between two walls holding a Fire Seed.
- Proceed until you can see the next fog door, then look to the left wall for branches that can be broken concealing an Ogre and a body with loot that consists of a Singer's Dress and a Life Ring +2. (Faster to double back from 3rd bonfire if you have passed this point)
- Move to the third mage on the small island right behind the crumbled building with the torch. From this island look to the left. You will spot a small cave covered by roots and a broken column on the right side. Beneath the water there is a rock bridge that leads to the column. The door behind the roots can only be opened after defeating Vendrick (note that you need to be fully human to open it). Behind it you will find the Soul of the King on a throne, and the King's Set in a chest in an alcove to the left.
- The ruined cabin contains a corpse with an Elizabeth Mushroom.
- At Bonfire Intensity 2+, a Large Soul of a Brave Warrior is added.
- Far out into the lake past the ruined cabin, past some submerged Curse Jars, is a hidden chest containing a Fire Tempest.
- Just before the fog gate on the left, there is a stone path leading upwards to an Alluring Skull at the end.
- Just before the fog gate to the right, skirt the side of the cliff out into the water to find a Soul of a Hero and a Divine Blessing.
Third Cavern
- After exiting the cave with the Rhoy's Resting Place bonfire, skirt the cliffside to the right out into the water to find a Large Soul of a Proud Knight and a Green Blossom.
- In the submerged circular area lined with pillars, find a Soul of a Brave Warrior and a Petrified Dragon Bone near the center.
- In the submerged circular area lined with pillars, find a Red Iron Twinblade and a Soul of a Proud Knight on a corpse near the center.
- In the submerged circular area lined with pillars, find a Homing Crystal Soulmass on a corpse lying on a block at the far side.
- After proceeding through the columns out of the circular area, find a Large Soul of a Proud Knight and a Green Blossom on a corpse straight ahead.
- Outside the base of the tower containing the Rise of the Dead bonfire there is in a chest hidden in the water to the right of the stairs containing Magic Arrow x30 and Dark Arrow x30.
- In the lower level of the Altar of Amana, there is a cave under the stairs with a corpse holding a Fire Seed.
- Outside the lower level of the Altar there is a chest to the left of the steps containing a Manslayer
- Outside the lower level of the Altar there is a chest to the right of the steps containing a Bonfire Ascetic
Notes
- Bring long-ranged attacks such as a bow, miracles, or sorceries to deal with the Amana Shrine Maidens. When using a bow, try to hit the casters with poison arrows and then hide as soon as they are poisoned.
- A Torch is essential to help you see where the water gets deeper (alternatively walk with the camera facing down) and to reach items like the Sunlight Blade, but walking around with a lit torch will drastically increase the range at which Lizardmen will take notice of you, likely drawing so many that you will be overwhelmed. It is recommended to take out as many enemies as possible and then explore using the torch.
- Bring Magic Resistance gear to deal with the large number of casters in the area. The more of them are firing at you at once, the more likely you are to take damage.
- The Ogre is very vulnerable to poison. He also has a small 'territory' that he will not move past and can be taken out from long range.
- After defeating the Demon of Song boss talk to the Milfanito in the first cabin or next to the shrine to get a Divine Blessing.
- After releasing the imprisoned Milfanito in Drangleic Castle by using the Key to the Embedded, talk to the Milfanito in the first cabin to get a Divine Blessing.
- Past the Rise of the Dead bonfire is a sealed door. To open the door you must not be human. Continuing beyond the door a road will lead you to the Altar of Amana and another Milfanito . Talking to her will get you a Divine Blessing and a Small Smooth & Silky Stone. Under the stairs in a small cave look to your left for a Fire Seed. If you kill the Milfanto just before the boss, this door will not open.
- While the Milfanito sing their song enemies like the Lizardmen will be rendered docile and can be spotted by the fireflies congregating near their location.
- There is a mage that only uses healing standing with two Clerics before the Rhoy's Resting Place bonfire. She will only heal wounded enemies near her and if no enemies are near her she will not attack players and will actively avoid them, most likely due to having no attack animations. The Archdrake Knights will walk much faster then the Priestess when attack the player, so they can be separated easily by kiting them back to the cabin.
- If you have obtained Wretch status the Altar of Amana will not restore your humanity.

The shrine serves as a barrier to Drangleic Castle.
How to Open
Obtaining the following 4 boss souls during the current playthrough will allow the door to open:
- Old Iron King Soul
- Soul of the Duke's Dear Freja
- Soul of the Lost Sinner
- Soul of the Rotten
Alternatively, this requirement can be bypassed by obtaining enough souls. It requires 1 million souls in the first playthrough, and in subsequent playthroughs, an additional million each time.
Note that it is not based on souls currently held, nor your total Soul Memory. It is based on the total number of souls obtained during your current playthrough. If you began NG+ with 5 million Soul Memory, it'll need to pass 7 million in order to meet the 2 million requirement.
In Dark Souls II, an easy way to meet the requirement of obtaining 2 million souls in NG+ is to collect 80 Giant Lord Souls in the Memory of Jeigh in NG using the respawning Bonfire Ascetic. This is especially useful for No Death runs. However, note that this will make the fight with the Giant Lord - which is necessary for completing the game - significantly harder.
In Scholar of the First Sin, an easier method is to farm the Soul of a Great Hero in the Dragon Aerie in NG, which is on a ledge accessed by dropping from the zip line near the bonfire. A respawning Bonfire Ascetic is also located in the first cave nearby, and the entire area can be bypassed in NG+ and above. Using Soul of a Great Hero exclusively to meet the 2M requirement will require collecting 99; getting the extra 20,000 souls at the start of NG+ should be trivial. Fewer are required depending on how many other types of souls you have available to consume.
Playthrough | Souls Obtained |
---|---|

NG+ | 2,000,000 |
NG+2 | 3,000,000 |

Sinner's Rise Video Walkthrough with Boss
In Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, the flooded area after the elevator ride contains a Flexile Sentry where the Enhanced Undead were previously. On Bonfire ascetic 2, two Enhanced Undead are also present, as well as Black Phantom Undead Citizen.
You enter the area by crossing a long straight bridge, with crossbow snipers firing down at you. Open the main doors and follow the broken ledges around to the gap in the wall. Go right and up the ladder to reach the area's only bonfire. Before resting there, go right around the corner of the tower and take out the three Royal Swordsman who were sniping you in the beginning. These enemies will attack you every time you get up from the bonfire. Grab the loot on the ledge inside the tower and then go back to rest at the bonfire.
Head back down the ladder and follow the stairs leading around the perimeter of the building and kill another Royal Swordsman. There are three more in the room with the elevator. Once they have been killed, take the elevator down to the basement. Look out for the treasure on a platform just before reaching the bottom. Jump from the elevator to get five Lacerating Knifes. You should then be able to safely drop down to ground below. The room you arrive in is safe, so prepare for a relatively difficult set of battles as you proceed.
The next area is flooded, which limits your mobility. There are three Enhanced Undead waiting for you. It is highly recommended that you only aggro them one at a time. With patience you can lure them back to the elevator room one at a time, so that you have better mobility. If you send the elevator back up they can be tricked into falling into the hole beneath by locking on and rolling away but of course this wastes any items they may drop. A nice trick is to get them to follow you onto the elevator platform and then activate it and roll away. The monster will go up on the platform and usually fall off to land on the platform over your head where they can be safely picked off with sorcery or arrows, leaving their drops available but remember to recall the elevator, ride it back up and come back down to retrieve dropped items as you will be stuck on the platform unable to call the elevator back down. it is possible to roll down and land on the ground but tricky so keep it simple.
Once they are dead, collect the random loot in the area. There is also an illusory wall (interact) close to the stairs from the elevator. Head down the stairs and go right; on the right wall, is a wall that opens to reveal a corpse with the Northern Ritual Band. Use caution in this area, as the ground only extends a few feet out; don't explore away from the loot corpse.
Proceeding halfway into the flooded area offers you a branching path and the opportunity to go upstairs to either the right or left. The locked cell on the upper left is opened with the Bastille Key. Your path forward is how to progress forward. Once you pass those stairwells, you will find several open cells with loot and home to several Undead Citizen. Again, try to draw them out one at a time, since getting swarmed makes this area significantly more difficult.
Once they are dead, it is essentially a straight, unimpeded run to the boss fog gate. If you have defeated the Belfry Gargoyles in Belfry Luna and have attained the Bastille Key already, you can proceed up the stairs to either side of the fog gate to light oil, which will illuminate the boss room.
It is also possible to summon Lucatiel to help in this fight. Her sign is at the bottom of the elevator.
In scholar of the first sin it is possible to summon Sellsword Luet
You can now head through the fog gate to challenge the Lost Sinner.
After the boss fight, be sure to open the chest before using the Primal Bonfire. It contains a Fragrant Branch of Yore.
Notes
- Once you reach the flooded basement, it is possible to sprint through the flooded cells area without taking damage. The enemies will give chase, but only to right before the boss area.
- The flooded area before the boss allows for the player to swim and is the only place in the game allowing the player to swim. This hints to a deleted feature that swimming would be a more prominent feature of the game.

The Gutter in 60 seconds
The first Bonfire (Upper Gutter) is directly to your right when you enter the zone. Jump onto the platform where you can see a treasure glowing. From there you access to the bonfire.
If you take a left from the first bonfire, jump onto the lower platform with the Undead Prisoners (one which wields a torch), and then take the ladder up, you will find a door which can be opened with the Forgotten Key. Inside is Havel's Set and Havel's Greatshield.
From the bonfire you can go on your right a first platform where a Hunting Dog awaits you. Circle around it and you should be fine. Be careful not to wander too much because there are two hollows sitting right behind the wall. Kill them and break the Poison Shooting Statue. Light the head of the broken statue with your Torch to see where you're going.
Progress like this until you find yourself on a ground platform. From there you can fall on the right edge on a second ground platform below. Climb on the wooden structure and jump to a ledge on the wall where a chest awaits you containing the Ring of Soul Protection. The scripted event of NPC Melinda the Butcher invading occurs here. From the ledge where the Ring of Soul Protection is, you can run/jump back into a room in the middle of the wooden structure containing a Mimic3 holding a Lightning Winged Spear and Dark Armor.
In Dark Souls 2 the chest(not a Mimic) contains Twinkling Titanite 1x and Small Smooth and Silky Stone 3x. The Mimic loot may fall through the wooden floor, in which case you can carefully drop through a hole in the corner of the room to the floor below.
The second bonfire is just after the first small fog door on a wooden structure. You need to break through a wall to gain access to it.
One of the ladders from the platform of the second bonfire conducts you to Black Gulch (the one near two big jars). Collect the Fragrant Branch of Yore. Beware of the green statues on the left and enter Black Gulch.
Notes
- There are many sconces around the area, and due to the low visibility it is recommended to carry a lit Torch. If one is running low on torches, the torch wielding Undead Prisoners commonly drop them.
- Lighted sconces not only increase general visibility, but provide a good way to mark one's path to prevent backtracking and general confusion.
- About 3/4 of the way through the Gutter is a cave which contains a few Poison Horn Beetles, and the Corrosive Ant Queen. The mist released from the ant's abdomen cures poison.
- If you've freed Royal Sorcerer Navlaan, he'll ambush you on the platform right under the ladder leading up to the Forgotten Door.
- The majority of the Gutter is well interconnected and can allow anywhere to be reached with enough knowledge of the area, even backtracking to areas that normally don't appear accessible anymore. However, the platform with the second bonfire has no known way to return to the rest of the Gutter without use of bonfires, so invading in that area may prove troublesome.
- If you've lit all the sconces Gutter Denizen, he'll invade at the botton of the Gutter and he'll drop the Black Witch Set.4

The Lost Bastille Video Walkthrough to Boss
Your first trip here may be by using the nest after defeating the Pursuer boss in the Forest of Fallen Giants. If this is the case, you will land at the Tower Apart bonfire. It is possible to clear the entirety of the Bastille from here without having ever visited No-Man's Wharf. You cannot, however, travel from the Lost Bastille to No-Man's Wharf until you have first defeated the Flexile Sentry.
When you land, go up in the elevator, and then, when it starts to go down, jump on the top and wait until it reaches the bottom again. You can access now a little cave with a corpse where you can obtain a Scimitar and one Repair Powder. Go back to the elevator room through the hole and take the elevator again in order to reach the cells. There will be a bonfire in a cell on the left and two Common Fruit in another cell.
Bonfire: Exile Holding Cells
Once you're ready, run along the path and you will come to another Heide Knight. Like the one in Forest of Fallen Giants, you can choose to fight or leave him be. If you defeat him, you will obtain a Heide Spear, a decent weapon for the spear users. Don't take the ladder down, instead drop down the destroyed wall at the end of the path and go right, towards the water. Here there will be a corpse with Soul of a Proud Knight and Human Effigy. Now drop down to the left into the courtyard.
In the courtyard, you will fight a couple Stray Dogs. Either defeat the second dog standing near the wood tower or lure him towards you with a long-range attack, because getting close to this wood tower will trigger an Undead Jailor to drop down and fight you. It is also possible to attack the jailor from above by choosing where you drop down. On the ground. if you attack the wood tower in the back corner, it will break and a corpse containing Alluring Skull will fall down. Now, defeat the Undead Jailor and look at the wall on the left to find a narrow path that leads to a chest with an Estus Flask Shard and a Large Titanite Shard. Go back and continue, open the door with the lever near it and kill two more Stray Dogs. You will notice a door but you can't open it yet. There is a shortcut lever that opens the path back to the McDuff bonfire, but we won't do more than unlock it and turn around.
Here you have a choice of breaking a wall that leads to a small armoury with a Royal Swordsman and two Undead Citizens, with a door that cuts through another courtyard, or taking a ladder back up to the higher walls. First we will go up the ladder and unlock a bonfire and blacksmith.
On the top you will see a Undead Jailor and a barrel. When the Jailor notices you, he will bump the barrel downstairs. You have to stay close to the wall that has a big crack and dodge in the last moment, this will blast the wall and reveal a bonfire (McDuff's Workshop) and a way to Steady Hand McDuff. If the Jailor did not push the barrel or you killed him before he did, you can push it yourself. Steady Hand McDuff will not serve as a merchant yet. When facing McDuff, the first chest on your right contains two Large Titanite Shards, and the second chest contains five Titanite Shards. The left chest contains 10 Iron Arrows, and the chest in the corner contains 10 Heavy Bolts. You will notice another chest under McDuff, light the sconce in this room and rest at the bonfire and he will move, allowing you to loot the Craftsman's Hammer and a Twinkling Titanite.
Attacking the large rock on the edge of the well will bring up a cage containing several Undead Citizen who will drop the Wanderer Set. Within the two side rooms are home to several Royal Swordsman each. In the room with the crossbow Royal Swordsman, on the ledge directly opposite the door, there is a breakable wall. Destroy the powder kegs to reveal the Archdrake Robes and an Archdrake Shield. Continue past that room to another larger room with another slot for a Pharros Lockstone and several chests containing a Bone Staff, a Parrying Dagger and the Twinblade. Using the Lockstone also allows access to two additional rooms with loot, simply attack the Pharros faces to reveal them.
Bonfire: McDuff's Workshop
Go straight carefully, kill the Undead Jailor and a Stray Dog. You will notice a corpse on the top of the left wall, don't worry about it until later. To the right there will be another dog and a corpse with Gold Pine Resin. Keep going forward, kill the undead Jailor and before entering the tower, go up to the little wall on the left and walk carefully to the ladder. On top will be a corpse with a Large Titanite Shard. Jump down and meet Lucatiel of Mirrah, if you exhausted all the dialogues back in No-man's Wharf. Talk with her until you hear all the dialogues. Now, make sure you have full HP. Get close to the door in this room. You will notice that you can't open it, but, if you attack the door, you will blow up some barrels that are behind it, allowing you to open the door now. You can also shoot the barrels, as they are visible from the balcony outside. Go ahead and kill another Undead Jailor. Go to the right until you find a room with three Stray Dogs on the bottom and a Royal Swordsman. If you have ranged weapons, use the platform where you are as a sniper point, if not, jump down and run to the other ladder, go up, kill the undead and then the dogs. Keep going until you reach a chest with Antiquated Key and Covetous Silver Serpent Ring.
Soul Vessel
You will need a Pharros Lockstone to reach that one. From Steady Hand McDuff's Workshop go back to the area with the wooden scaffolding, enter in the building blocked by planks, then go outside again in the area with the well. From there enter the next building and on the elevated surface facing the door you came through take the left, if you reached that room from the ladder outside instead then it is straight ahead. In that next room there is a Pharros' lock on the right, the secret wall will appear on the left once triggered. The Soul Vessel is in the wooden chest behind.
Bonfire: The Tower Apart
If you reached this bonfire after defeating the Pursuer, it is the closest warp point to Lucatiel's tower. For most players this will be a one-way shortcut with some extra items available by walking on the balcony towards the chest mentioned above. Acrobatic players that skipped the Pursuer can still reach the bonfire and the extra items via carefully timed jump over the rubble to the left of the entrance of the building that contains the chest.
Go back to the tower where you met Lucatiel and then head left, through the broken wall, to another platform with a narrow path and a door at the end. This part will be a bit tricky. Open the door and take a look inside. You will see a crossbow Royal Swordsman standing. Try to get his attention from this spot, he will go after you, along with another swordsman. Go back to the platform and fight them.
When you are done, cross the door and three more swordsmen will attack you, coming from the left. Go straight where the swordsman was, and fight them there. If you go downstairs you will find another swordsman and a corpse with Soul of a Proud Knight and Human Effigy near a ladder. Ignore the ladder for now and go back to the door. Go left and kill two more swordsmen. Open the door with the lever and kill another two (be careful if you die, because the door will be opened and you will have to fight FOUR swordsmen at a time instead two). The third cell on the right will contain 2 Radiant Lifegems.
You can find the summon sign of Pilgrim Bellclaire in a nearby cell. Whether you summon her or not, prepare for a boss fight.
Boss Fight: Ruin Sentinels
Cross the fog and you will drop down to a platform, take care of your left and start the fight against the Ruin Sentinels. You will be fighting three of them. However upon landing only one will ever engage you until he either dies or you leave the platform. The Sentinels can jump up to the platform should you stay on it. It is suggested to fall down onto the main floor when the first is dispatched so you have room to avoid their attacks.
See the Ruin Sentinels article for more information.
When the fight is over, there are numerous hidden doors within this area. They are opened by facing them and pressing the Activate button. You'll find a Target Shield in a chest and a Rusted Coin on a corpse behind two of those doors. Inside one of these is a ladder with a chest down a hallway containing the sorcery Hush. In that same hallway is another hidden door that leads back to the boss room area with a corpse holding 3 Homeward Bones. This is the same corpse visible from within the boss fight. The broken double doors indicate the route you came from. Progress through the only natural doorway. At the top of the staircase there is another hidden doorway. Inside is an Undead Citizen beside a breakable chest. The chest contains a Rouge Water (three Crimson Water at Bonfire Intensity 2 or above) which turn to Rubbish should the chest be destroyed. When you are done, keep going until you reach a narrow path with cells on the side. On the last cell there will be a skeleton with a trap that will explode. After this, you will arrive at the next bonfire.
Bonfire: Servants' Quarters
Near the bonfire, there is a ladder leading down. In the room below, there is a Stray Dog, a corpse with a Large Club, a chest containing a Priest's Chime, and a Pharros' Contraption that hides a door. Unlock the contraption to open the door that leads to Belfry Luna. Back in the Servant's Quarters Bonfire room, ascend the stairs to the elevated area, and exit the room through the door. Close this door to reveal treasure on a corpse. To your left there will be an undead Jailor with pyromancy, so be careful. There is a corpse behind the crates and barrels with a Human Effigy. Once you are done go back and take the other way, towards a tower.
The path here splits, with a staircase to the right leading up the tower, and an exit to the left. These paths will rejoin shortly, but to the left exit has useful items and a shortcut back to the courtyard (by dropping off the roof near McDuff's bonfire). Go through the exit, though be mindful of an undead jailor immediately to the left. Go ahead and drop to the roof on your right. Search for a corpse with a Flame Butterfly. Run and jump to the opposite roof. There is a corpse with a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier. At this point, you can climb the ladder and through a window to rejoin the path the stairs in the tower would have lead you to. Up the ladder head right, into the storage room filled with barrels. There is an Undead Citizen hiding, and a door that leads nowhere and contains nothing. Back down the hall with the window is a shortcut gate controlled by the nearby lever. Be careful when opening the gate, as there are three undead citizens here, and one of them can inflict curse. Progressing farther loops back to a familiar room with many undead citizens and breakable jars. Immediately above you is an undead citizen next to a powder keg, and to the right is a staircase leading back earlier in the level.
In the next room there are three citizens, two hiding in the pot-like things and one ledge just above the door you entered through. After you finish them, go down the hall near a grated wall, to find a secret wall at the end. Interact with it to open it and keep going. This will lead to a curving hall with a long diagonal section. There is another secret door in this hallway, which will lead you outside again. From this point, there are several sets of treasure to get which require some non-reversible drops, so you will have to come this way multiple times. Have some Homeward Bone ready if you don't want to lose time here. First, jump to the platform in front of you, there will be a corpse with a Flame Butterfly and three Torches. Then, drop yourself carefully into the narrow wall. Go to the end of the wall and you will find a corpse with a Soul of a Brave Warrior and a Golden Wing Shield. Go back to the place before jumping and head left, there will be a corpse with Bracing Knuckle Ring. If you look down, you will see a platform with a corpse. Drop down and loot an Alluring Skull, at which point you will be in a courtyard near the Exile Holding Cells bonfire.

Notes
- Phantoms can get the enemy drops, too.
- After defeating the Burnt Ivory King, you can return and face three Charred Loyce Knights. They will respawn each time the area is loaded. This mean that if you get summoned while fighting here, upon returning three more knights will spawn, regardless of whether you had killed the first three or not; this means you may end up fighting up to six knights at the same time.
- I left a summon sign by the Cathedral fire, and then jumped down to The Old Chaos. I only managed to kill one knight before I got summoned. Upon returning (host didn't want to kill the boss, so the "duty" was unfulfilled), three more knights spawned, along the remaining two. However, after I killed a couple of them, more kept spawning (as how it happens before killing the boss). I teleported back up, so I don't know whether they keep spawning indefinitely. Can anyone confirm this? NEEDS TESTING. (Zaxaroth Here, I confirm this, they will keep spawning and respawning always. A way to stop it is to bring the 4 silver knights along to the fight and hold on until they use some ice magic to lock the doors. Be careful the guys who like to use magic to kill everything, you will need lots and lots of ambers or another item that refill the magic scrolls .)
- The Charred Loyce Knights seem to respawn infinitely, on their own individual timers. If you kill one, wait a little while, and then kill the other two, the portal that spawned the first one seems to spawn another one earlier than the other two. Further documentation needed. They do not respawn indefinitely in Scholar of the first sin.
- Dehcbad25 here. In Scholars of the first sin the Charred Loyce Knights will keep respawning indefinitely, after defeating Burnt Ivory King if revisiting the area. You cannot bring silver knights if you used them in the battle with the Burnt Ivory King, and there will be one in the area before the jump, but he will not jump with you. My guess is that if you do not use the silver knights, to leave them available for later, they might be back at the area but will not jump with you. Maybe someone can test this if they want to fight Burnt Ivory King without sealing the portals

Walkthrough
Surviving the fall
The first fall is the furthest, and thus causes the most damage.
At absolute minimum, around 1368 total combined HP and fall damage reduction is required to survive the fall.
Determining an exact minimum needed to survive can be difficult because both equip weight and forward momentum slightly increase fall damage.
If your max HP is low:
- Unequipping everything except for fall damage reduction items is recommended.
- Very slowly and carefully stepping off the edge to avoid forward momentum is recommended.
Item | Effects |
---|---|
Third Dragon Ring | +7.5% max HP +12.5% max Stamina +12.5% max equipment load |
Second Dragon Ring | +5% max HP +10% max Stamina +10% max equipment load |
First Dragon Ring | +3% max HP +5% max Stamina +5% max equipment load |

Lion Warrior Helm | -150 falling damage taken |
Lion Warrior Cape | -150 falling damage taken |
Lion Warrior Cuffs | -150 falling damage taken |
Fall Control sorcery spell | -1599 falling damage taken |
- With the Silvercat Ring equipped (-600 falling damage) and everything else unequipped (0.5 equip load), 768 HP is enough to survive the fall.
- This means that every class except for the Swordsman can survive the fall at base Vigor with the Silvercat ring.
- You can survive at 22 Vigor with nothing equipped but the Life Ring +0 (+5% HP) and the Blue Seal (+3% HP), 1480-1500 total HP.
- (Scholar of the First Sin) If unwilling to spend souls on the Silvercat Ring or level Vigor so much, Lion Clan Warrior equipment can be obtained early on by getting a Fragrant Branch of Yore from Melentia, the Forest of Fallen Giants trick jump, or No-Man's Wharf and running to the 3rd Shaded Woods bonfire.
- This may be the best option for low-Soul Memory Agape Ring builds wishing to go down ASAP. Just remember that you will also need a Fragrant Branch to free Straid of Olaphis for the Agape Ring, in addition to the Fragrant Branch found in Lost Bastille used to open the path to the Ruin Sentinels.
Ladders
Once you've reached Earthen Peak and either paid him 2,000 souls or defeated the area boss, Laddersmith Gilligan will move to Majula and offer to build ladders for The Pit.
- Pay 3,500 souls for the medium ladder, then climb down and jump across. The doorway below you leads to Grave of Saints.
- Pay 12,000 souls for the long ladder, then climb down. The platforms below you eventually lead to The Gutter. Up the other ladder next to you is a locked door which requires the Forgotten Key.

- Disc Chime is in the same room, you have to jump from the area with the chest.
- A crystal lizard is also on the bridge. Beware that it will likely drop its loot through the bridge.
Notes
- You can skip Grave of Saints entirely and head straight to the Gutter.
- The loot under "Skipping Grave of Saints is also listed in the Grave of Saints page. Depending on how you encounter this area, you may correlate it with The Pit instead.

this seemingly peaceful limbo serves as a gateway between the two realms.
It lies deep within a shadowy cavern and traverses an ancient forest rising from subterranean lake.
Three former Firekeepers reside here with their caretaker, offering guidance to the Undead
who pass through on their quest to break the curse.
The forest serves as a proving ground for visitors and hides a great many secrets for those willing to seek them out,

General Notes
- There is a raven's nest containing Sparkling Sisters Dyna and Tillo, similar to Dark Souls' Snuggly the Crow and Demon's Souls' Sparkly the Crow. You can leave items here and other random items will appear. The quality/rarity is determined by what item you drop. The four tiers of items the crows accept are, in respective order from least to best, Prism Stone, Small Smooth & Silky Stone, Smooth & Silky Stone, and Petrified Something.
- There is a coffin behind the two Ogres on the small beach. Using it will change the sex of the player. Using it again will revert the effect. In the Scholar of the First Sin, a Pursuer will spawn here.
- It is possible to obtain extra Human Effigies by killing Strowen or Housekeeper Milibeth. Note that turning hostile against any of the NPCs in the hut will deem Housekeeper Milibeth hostile and the rest uncooperative. The player can still kill the NPCs and speak to their spirits by sacrificing souls to their tombstones outside the front of the hut. This is necessary should the player wish to use a Soul Vessel to reallocate their levels with Strowen. Strowen costs 15,000 souls and the rest are 1,000 souls.
- Igniting every sconce will spawn an invader who drops a Petrified Something when killed (SOTFS only).
- After defeating the Ogres, you can get a Handmaid's Ladle from Housekeeper Milbeth.

- There's a Radiant Lifegem in the opposite side of Undead Crypt Entrance bonfire.
- A body with a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier is near Grave Warden Agdayne.
- Soul of a Brave Warrior at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- Drop off the platform with two Royal Guards, then climb up the ladder to find the Crushed Eye Orb in a chest.
- Before the fog gate there's a drop where you find a Soul Vessel in a chest. Up the ladder you find a Soul of a Hero, then down the short broken ladder is the Undead Ditch bonfire.
- There's a Dragon Charm and a Petrified Dragon Bone after the first fog wall.
- In the room next to the Undead Ditch bonfire you can find the Bracing Knuckle Ring +2
- In the room with the second bonfire, there is a broken ladder in a corner of the room. A body near it has a Titanite Chunk and and Petrified Dragon Bone.
- Three Chunks instead of one at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- Climbing a ladder in the corner of the gravestone room by the bonfire leads to the platform the Leydia Witch attacks from and a chest containing the Dried Fingers, a Bonfire Ascetic, and a Twinkling Titanite.
- Lying on the stairs is a Soul of a Lost Undead.
- Large Soul of a Brave Warrior at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- In the room where you fight Nameless Usurper there's a Divine Blessing and a Soul of a Hero.
- In that same room is an illusionary wall, on the right wall from when you enter the room, or opposite the exit. The chest has the Avelyn and some Heavy Bolts.
- The room with many gravestones and bell-ringing hollows has a Radiant Lifegem and Homeward Bone.
- 2x Elizabeth Mushroom and 3x Homeward Bone at Bonfire Intensity 2+.
- A second illusionary wall hides a Pharros contraption in the second gravestone room with the bell ringing hollows. The wall is on the left side of the room. Inserting the lockstone reveals a Pharros wall on the opposite side of the room. Inside is a chest with Olenford's Staff and Great Lightning Spear.
- The Mace of the Insolent is located on a body by the exit of this room, to the side of a gravestone.
- Next the entrance to the hallway leading to the boss there is a chest containing a Darknight Stone and Magic Stone.
Bonfire Intensity 2+ Changes
- Two Imperious Knights are added to the room with the three Leydia Witches.
- Wall Warriors are added to the path to the Crushed Eye Orb chest.
Notes
- Leydia Pyromancers indefinitely spawn from their gravestones if you stay near them. Destroying the gravestones permanently stops them from spawning.
- Hollow enemies can ring bells around the level, which spawns all Pyromancers in the area.
- Pull the lever just before the long hallway to the boss to open a shortcut to the Undead Ditch bonfire.
- Location of an excellent soul farming spot. Once in the final hallway, avoid killing the Hollow under the stairs and simply kill the respawning Leydia Pyromancers. You can also kill him and ring the bell yourself. This way you can control when the Pyromancers respawn.
- Near the shortcut bridge you can see a platform under you. Here you can light a sconce, which in turn lights the large sconces on the statues in the room. In SotFS, this spawns several red NPC phantoms throughout the crypt. These Insolent Knights do not respawn without use of a bonfire ascetic, and have a chance of dropping the Insolent Set and Shield of the Insolent, which are otherwise unobtainable in SotFS.

Basement Skeletons
Initially, there is a lone Skeleton in the basement. Killing it is required to allow Cale to appear by the map.
An additional skeleton will appear with every increase in Bonfire Intensity, allowing up to 8 total. The skeletons do not respawn unless Bonfire Intensity is increased, and they are each guaranteed to drop a Human Effigy.

DLC Promotion
Most items have been added in order to promote upcoming DLC.
+ Display Promotion History - Hide Promotion History- It was announced on http://www.darksouls.jp/pc/treasurebox/ that items would change every week, starting on June 5th, until the Crown of the Sunken King DLC was released on July 22nd. The items were listed in advance, though the final item, the reskinned Murakumo, was originally listed as "A Secret Item".
- The above link was updated on August 22nd to announce the reskinned Blacksteel Katana, which coincided with the launch of the Crown of the Old Iron King DLC.
- The link was again updated on September 22nd to announce the reskinned Longsword, which coincided with the launch of the Crown of the Ivory King DLC.
Notes
- The special items are placed into the chest automatically while online. If the player previously opened the chest to obtain the Soul Vessel, they may have to reload the area in order to spawn the item in. The chest will re-close by itself to contain the new item.
- The contents of this chest cannot be replaced through the use of a Bonfire Ascetic, as ascetics only respawn the contents of wooden chests. However, the contents will respawn when progressing into the next New Game Plus cycle.
Majula Mansion Map
The basement of the mansion contains an unlabeled map of Drangleic, etched into the ground from stone. Various flames will appear on it, corresponding to specific progress made.
Lighting the Flames
Cale the Cartographer will reward you with his armor set if you light all 8 flames on the map. This is achieved by doing the following, in any order:
- Defeating the Last Giant
- Defeating the Lost Sinner
- Defeating the Old Iron King
- Defeating the Duke's Dear Freja
- Defeating the Rotten
- Obtaining the King's Ring
- Obtaining the Ashen Mist Heart
- Defeating Throne Watcher and Defender
Turning the Flames Blue
It is possible to make the flames on the map appear blue in color, though there is no known reward or effect for accomplishing this.
With the flames already lit, this will occur after using 8 Bonfire Ascetics on a flame's corresponding bonfire.3
